My husband just read about this scenic highway near Yellowstone. Have any of you traveled this highway? We are planning to visit Yellowstone next year and I was wondering if this would be a nice day-trip in the car and leave the MH at the RV park.
I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks

This was the highlight of our trip last year My daughter still talks about. We stayed at a dump of Koa at Red Lodge but it was worth it to do the trip Also drove the Chief Joseph Highway. ( I think thats the name) enjoyed both

My daughter lives in Texas and I went down to her school 5th grade to pick up her for the weekend When I went to her class I saw on the wall with the other kids stories of what they did for summer. My daughter wrote about all the great scenary she saw in Montana and the bear tooth highway. Really made my day. Every summer we try to top the summer before but I do not think we will every top that trip!

We went to yellowstone and the beartooth hiway and both were outstanding,I almost lean toward Beartooth as #1. We stayed in Cody Wy at the Ponderosa and took day trips to each one.

We drove the Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge to Yellowstone in early September last year. While the scenery was beautiful, we were somewhat disappointed because there was no snow on the mountains at that time of year and also because the smoke from the forest fires limited visibility. If we go again, it will be earlier in the year. Our class C had no trouble with the grades. Lower gears work wonders going downhill.

The Beartooth is fabulous. Drivable in a MH, but not advisable. We took the MH (36ft with a Crown Vic as a toad) over it in June last year. It was a white knuckler, due to no guard rails, switchbacks and steep grades.
Just remember it will probably be closed until at least Memorial Day every year due to snow.
I would love to do it again in the car. Take your time and stop often for pictures.
Safe travels,
Judy

The prettiest season at Beartooth is fairly brief. You need to catch the wildflowers in bloom while there is still snow on the peaks, no forest fires around and no haze or rain while you are there. I've been over it 6 times and it can be outstanding or blah, depending on those factors.
