Using your fresh tank with pump;
You don't open the faucet to allow water to fill hot water heater.
You simply turn the pump on, it will STAY running and fill ALL the lines AND the hot water tank. When the pump stops running everything is filled. (If you kept a faucet open the pump would continue to run non stop.) One the entire system is filled with water the pump will stop. As you use water the pump will come back on periodically to re-fill the entire system.
this is not correct... the pump runs until the pressure in the system reaches it's cutout pressure... it doesn't mean the system is full of water... ALWAYS open a HWF and make sure the air has been bled out before lighting the water heater on either heat source...
you do not need to use the pump or have the LP on to heat the water on electric and if you hear the flame you are heating it on gas not electric...
I am not sure how yours is set up but all you need to do is turn on the electric after you have water in the tank...
make sure there isn't a switch on the back of the tank that needs turned on to or the breaker hasn't tripped... the light may be 12V and only mean the switch is turned on...

The switch on the wall inside the camper is not for electric it is for propane.the electric switch is outside on the water heater. At least that is how it is on my sprinter.Pretty sure yours is the same. That is probably why it came on after you turned on the propane,
DavesWife wrote: This is our first experience at a private cg using a water hook-up. Our site has elec too. In our first 2 trip we filled the fresh water tank, cause being at state parks we only had elec... On those trips, we turned on the pump switch, then the water heater switch, and ran the faucet till the pump filled the heater.
Today, we arrived a few hours ago. Since it's a water-hook up, I just pushed the water heater switch, not the pump. A few hours pass, no hot water. The manuals are useless; they tell you nothing. Does the pump have to be on for the water heater to work (on elec)and if there is no water in the fw tank, does this mess up the pump? Sorry for the NOOB questions, but it worked fine the first two trips and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Since you had not used your WH on electric on your 2 previous trips, I would be looking for a switch behind outside cover of WH. IF- you had drained your water heater after having used it on the other trips and the switch for electric that you turned on prior to filling WH actually heated the element prior to the tank filling, you most likely cooked the element. DID YOU DRAIN THE WH AFTER YOUR LAST 2 TRIPS?

See, we thought it was the reverse. We did "hear the flame" but the switch outside is set to "off". So you may be correct, but we thought the "walk thru guy" said the opposite. Hmmmm. Now I have no idea. Hope I didn't burn out the element.
Thanks everyone for your input. Either way a hot shower waits for me this a.m.!!!

Since you found the switch, Turn it on, and let the Electric do its thing. Good luck and have FUN

Did you check to see if the water heater was bypassed as for winterizing? If it's bypassed, you will get water from the faucet just as if the tank is full, but the tank may be empty. Before you go any further and burn something up, check to make sure the valves near your tank are in the right position. There are three bypass systems. There is a one valve, two valve and three valve. Since most now-a-days are three valve I'll describe that. If you have a three valve system, there will be a valve on both lines attached (in and out) and a valve on the line between them (bypass). The valves connected to the tank should be parallel to the line (on) and the valve between them should be perpendicular to the line (off). Make them that way and then run water from the hot faucet sufficient to flush 6-10 gallons of air.
If you have a one or two valve system, check back.

Good to hear you got it on. BTW....I run both gas and electric at the same time. With mine you can do that. You have a very fast recovery that way.

Your electric elements should be fine. Sounds like they were not turned on. Sprinterowner is correct, the inside switch you are talking about, is part of 12 volt system for propane water heat. It has nothing to do with electric water heat.
If you want to heat with electric only, turn on outside switch and turn off inside switch.
Both switches on, you're heating with both electric and propane (faster recovery).
Inside switch on and outside switch off, you are heating with propane only.

I am sure that you will enjoy that hot shower...
for clarification purpose or maybe to confuse things even more, there are many different configurations used...
some have the switch one the back of the tank some on the front and some on the wall...
mine is on the wall... with no switch outside...
Good Luck
That is how my last two TT's were equipped as well. I don't get the point of hiding a switch outside on the WH. I t is almost asking to be left on and burn out the element in transit.
