If a person commutes 300 miles a week in a vehicle that gets 20 MPG he would consume 15 gallons of gas. At $4.00 a gallon that is $60.00 a week or $3,000.00 a year if you work 50 weeks. If the same person commuted the same 300 miles a week in a vehicle that gets 30 MPG he would consume 10 gallons of gas. At $4.00 a gallon that is $40.00 a week or $2,000.00 a year if he still worked 50 weeks. He has saved $1,000.00. That same $1,000.00, buying gasoline for his class c, would purchase 250 gallons at $4.00 a gallon. If the class c got 8 MPG, that would be 2,000 miles traveled.

To me it is all about making better choices in our non RVing side of life. I am not talking about full timers here, I am talking about people that RV for recreation. We can think things out and with just a little effort have plenty of money to spend on fuel for our RV's.

I don't drink (much) and I don't smoke, I don't throw money around in strip clubs and I don't spend thousands of dollars fishing and hunting in Alaska, and when I ski I pretty much do it in my home state.

Gasoline is my one vice and my addiction (OK, so I gamble a little too).

Gasoline is the new crack. OPEC is now the mother of all dope dealers. I might start selling stuff to support my habit but you can bet that it sure ain't gonna be my RV.

We are on a fixed income, so EVERYTHING is budgeted here. That said, we budget the trip , not the gas. The percentage spent on gas will take more of the pie, but it is easier to think of the whole pie, than just the wedge ( large yes ) called gas.

When planning on our next trip ( Austin, Texas and area ) I was greatly surprised how little the additional gas prices effected our other plans.
