We were in Wasilla this morning when I discovered that our water heater wasn't working on LP. The Milepost said there was a RV dealer at milepost 36.5 of the Parks Highway which was just a few miles south of where we overnighted. As there was no igniter and the red light on the EMS center wasn't coming on to indicate a lack of pilot light, I figured the potted circuit board had died (Atwood water heater). The dealer, Valley RV, had the board and charged me $125 for it. The parts person, said to be careful with the packaging (a blister pack) and bring it back if it didn't solve the problem.

I put it in and it didn't fix it. The parts person said go around to the service area and talk to the service manager. The manager brought out a test light and quickly determined that the problem was a burned out fusible link. He said go buy one from parts and if he didn't have to put it in, there would be no service charge. The parts department refunded my money for the circuit board without any trouble at all and sold me the fusible link (a lot cheaper than the circuit board).

I commented on what a nice RV dealership to do business at. He said they were still a family business, and that's the way they did things.

The owner (or one of them) was outside doing a PDI and I stopped and told him of the class operation he was running. He was very pleased to hear that, of course.

If you're ever in the Anchorage/Wasilla area and need service, look them up.

For you muscle car guys, the owner also has really nice '70 Nova in the parking lot that he had put a fuel injected 502 engine into. He did a really sanitary install and drives it regularly. It does mid-11's on street tires!!!!

Great you found the place. How about putting an entry at RV Service Reviews. It seems there may be two excellent reviews on this dealer already, but another won't hurt. It also helps the good guys stay in business and keeps us from getting more frustrated with the others.

Thanks for the link to RV Service Reviews. I added a 3rd excellent rating for Valley RV.

Good web site. I noticed the RV dealer in my hometown that has a lousy reputation locally also got a bad review. I've added the site to my "Favorites" in case I need more service help while on the road.
