Camping World has a smaller version on sale for $169 that makes 20 lbs or so a day and weighs less than 30 lbs. That is the one I'm going to get.

Deen wrote: In our 2000 DSDP we had one in the freezer of the refer, didn't work all the well and took a lot of room. When we ordered the 2002 we specified the U-Line stand alone unit. Lost a whole storage cabinet that I was expecting to use as the dealer told us the unit would be installed under the sink. Makes LOTS of ice and keeps the wife happy so I guess it's OK!!
I have a 4 door refer, 12 cu ft. IIRC, and ice maker is in one of the 2 freezer sections with some other space available. and it works great. don't know what make/model you have.

I like the looks of the Edgestar. 2 questions though, how much power is it pulling and does it work best in the 5vr or outside. On a 30 amp service and a/c, not much extra power to be spared. I can plug directly to the 20 amp plug in the pedestal and run outside, but concerned the outdoor heat will affect it's performance...

One thing that sold us on our coach, besides the fact it has a pantry, which the DW loves, was the fact that it has a ice maker in the freezer.
The fridg is a standalone unit and none of the other ones we looked at had it.
It works very nicely.

Does anyone know what the brand/model is of the one at Camping World? Would like to find more information (reviews?) for it. Anyone have one?

Trafficmaker it all depends on the temperture outside the camper if its very hot then it will take a little longer as far as the drawi didnt findd it to be anymore then any applience its very quite.I stated it depends on how much cubes you need and how long you want to run no problem with the 20amp

Update:
Magic Chef icemaker worked OK. It needed tending too fairly often to keep up with the demand / load during our stay at Topsail.
However, after 6 days, the icemaker died on on us! So we had to start buying ice again. We are consuming between 4-6 dollars per day in ice.
I also did some research and apparently all the portable ice makers including the edgestar use the same internal components manufactured by SYT in China. The duty cycle for these are for a few hours a day. Not the 24X7 we were pushing on ours.
I guess it is back to bagged ice for now!

the purpose of these ice makers isnt to make ice continuous for 24/7 lol its a supplement for drinks and such not to make bags and bags lol. I have my edgestar for over a year and never make more then couple bins worth at time.
