Just got back camping for 8 nights and during the trip a small toilet brush is now in the black tank. When I went to dump, when I left, I could feel the brush as I closed the valve. I ran a snake up the 3" dia. drain from the outside but couldn't get it out. Can the valve assembly be removed so I can get the darn thing out? Thought I would ask before I get the tools out and jump in head first. Any other ways you would approach this crazy problem?

The valves are made to be removed and replaced peridoically. Most RV stores in fact stock the assembly. Its usually better to do the job when you arent using the rig of course but its not a difficult job.

Just a though....... If you can see straight down into the black tank from the toilet, fill the black tank with water about 1/2 way. Use an old yard stick or such to stir around the water and a flashlight see if the brush floats?????
Possible. If it does you might swish it around enough to actually see it from above and a coat hanger or even a small arm, you might be able to fish it out through the top. Good luck.

OH.. you are in deep doo doo!!! Sorry about that..
You can unbolt the slide handle blade and take that part out and maybe get to the brush. If there is a bend in the pipe as most have, you may need to remove the valve assy. which is glued in so you will have to cut it off and if you have room put in a coupler to restore after you get the brush out. Bar that you may have to drop the tank and fish it out through the toilet opening.
At any rate you must get it out!!! But you knew that!!!

I thought everybody knew that you have to tie the toilet brush to a string and anchor it someplace! Good luck fishing yours out.

You might want to get a seal kit for the valve before you yank it apart, might as well install it as long as you're doing it anyway. Do not use a small brush, get one that won't go down the hole if dropped.(now is a fine time for that advise...right)

I can't get to it from the toilet, it's not a clear shot into the tank. Maybe if I just leave it in there it will self-scrub the tank when I'm moving. Sounds like something Camping World would sell for me. That tool grabber is what I used first, it didn't work either. Thanks for the advise.

This is what I would do if all the above fails.
1. Clean the tank and sanitize
2. Go the back side of the tank - usually you can remove a panel and get access to it.
3. Using a hole cutter, remove a 3" section from the top of the tank.
4. Using flashlight and tool grabber to remove offending item
5. Attach a square plastic plate over the hole using sealant and screws.
As the hole is in the top of the tank it's not going to leak and it's always there in case you need access again in the future.
