Discover Card no longer charges a transaction fee for CA charges. We found not as many places took Discover as Visa when we went to Alaska in 04.

Our Visa charges 3% and our ATM charges 1% on top of the ATM fee.

I hope more gas stations take Discover this year.

I am not aware of any companies in Canada that take Discover cards. Our company ets 1-2 people a year asking about it, but our cc merchant account only allows us to accept Visa, MC and Amex.

Today in Whitehorse, Wal Mart accepted Discover. We found all the Wally Worlds we went to on our trip accepted it. Mile 0 campground in Dawson Creek & a gas station in Contact Creek YT also honored. So it pays to ask.

I got tired of paying Bank of America and Chase 3% on purchasea abroad, so I checked around and now ise a Capital One Master Card.
This from the FAQ section of the bank's website:
Does Capital One charge fees for foreign currency transactions made with a credit card?

Capital One does not charge a fee for using your credit card for foreign currency transactions. Foreign purchases will be converted at the foreign exchange rate in effect at the time of posting the charge.
