Linda, since you already do the driving, if it were me, I'd make sure I knew how to do all of the outside stuff, then I'd probably drive to whatever spot I had really enjoyed and plop down for awhile until I was ready to make a move. We have met a lot of single women who fulltime and they enjoy it. Several do volunteer work as a way of helping to defray expenses, stay active, and meet people in the areas as they travel.

Thanks for the input Barb...problem is, I don't really WANT to be out there alone. I have so many grandkids that I'd miss that I want to stay close to, but not be so close that I have to be a full time babysitter.

A Class B would probably be the best way for me to travel if I go it alone.

Linda, last year we met a Lady who has been living out of her Van for years. Removed the back seat. Put a Twin size air Mattress on the floor. Has a small fridge that runs on DC & 110. Has a rod across behind the seats to hang clothes. A Coleman stove she cooks on and Coleman propane lantern, and an Electric Lamp. Wooden boxes she had made from an article in Mechanics Illustrated, for all her spices, pots and pans, dishes. Plus one to use as a pantry. We met her in Palm Springs Thousand Trails. Has a Laptop to keep in touch with Free WiFi in thousand trails.

She travels all over the country to visit her children who are scattered.
When visiting, she can just park in their driveway, as it does not look like an RV, and stay as long as she wishes. She was 85 a year ago... My wife got an email from her last week, and she is headed for ME for a couple of months.

A class B would be much more comfortable I believe, than her Van...

For forty years working I traveled every stte in the country. For 9 years after I retired I lived on a sailboat and loved it. Have been fulltiming for almost 6 years. In all this time I have only found two places I think I could live and be happy; La Jolla, CA in the winter and NYC in a condo facing central park the rest of the time and I can't afford either so I'll fulltime all the way to heaven.

How long have you full timed? (1)
Do you ever regret the decision to full time? (2)
What, if anything, do you miss about an S/B home? (3)
Would you return to an S/B home and just part time RV? (4)
Do you plan on giving up the lifestyle at some point? (5)

1. Over 20 years
2. No regrets. I wouldn't have been able to retire early if I hadn't saved so much money by living in an RV and enjoying every minute.
3. I do miss not having a vegetable garden, which I really enjoyed. Other than that I can't say I miss anything else
4. At this point, I don't think so.
5. See`above

In the past, I've come across a guy fulltiming in a Mercedes car (no, I'm not making it up). He seemed pretty happy.
I also met a guy in the same park (Caspers Wilderness Park, San Juan Capistrano, CA) named John who was an unemployed doctor (again, not kidding) who lived out of a station wagon. And, in the same park was a guy named Bruce living out of his truck. You often see strange things in California

We retired September 2007 and began living in our motorhome and traveling and volunteering. We LOVE it and wouldn't even consider stopping. We'll do this as long as we can and then Livingston, here we come!

How long have you full timed? off and on 20+ years. Not sure why we kept going back and trying a SB again, but it never worked and always ended with us on the road again

Do you ever regret the decision to full time? nope

What, if anything, do you miss about an S/B home? absolutely nothing

Would you return to an S/B home and just part time RV? BTDT - doesn't work for us.

Do you plan on giving up the lifestyle at some point? nope this time it's for better or worse till death do us part

Couple of weeks ago, came across someone in Thousand Trails who travels is a small Toyota pickup. He has rigged a tent in the bed, has a screened room attached. Sets up his electric two burner stove, lantern, chairs, etc in it. Pulls the picnic table inside the room. He said, he usually parks close to the Adult Center where there is lots of recreation, swimming pool, jacuzzi, pool tables, etc. Spends all of his daylight hours there, with the Sat TV, etc... If it rains he spends even more time in the center. Said, its the best living room I ever had. After all, I have 600 acres of back yard here if I want to get out of the Pickup it is easy.
