I am new to RVing but I love it so far. Me and my family think it would be awesome to own and operate a campground. It seems like a fun and relaxed lifestyle. I would like to hear opinions from people who own or have owned a campground. Is/was it as rewarding as it seems like it would be? Does it allow you to pay the bills/make profit? Any other thoughts or ideas would be awesome.
Thanks,
Stacy

Stacy, try working at a campground for 1 year, paying close attention to the balance sheet, then see how awesome it is!

Cross out Awesome and insert Demanding, or Frustrating, or Marginally Profitable, or ????
I doubt if any campground owners would use the term Awesome. Have you ever worked with the public?

I have always wondered why RVers would want to give up RVing, just to work 12 hr. days, 7 days a week and never have time to go camping themselves?

Don't know about campgrounds, but I've known a few folks that thought they could run a bar just because they drank in one. The demands of owning it took away all the fun. It might actually be worse owning someplace that specializes in fun while you are working your tail off 8 days a week.

I would think its a lot like a general store; meet lots of people, be your own boss, frustrating cash flow, inventory headaches, and little free time.

not to mention having to hire help at low wages that probably hate their job and might steal from you.
my good friend owned a KFC franchise and one time that he left somebody in charge, there were absolutely NO cash transactions, only charges and checks.

I recently talked to the owner of a small lakeside CG in Kentucky. He and his wife love RV'ing and thought that owning a CG would be fun, awesome and all those other good things. At first they did love it. Then they realized they had not used their RV in 3 years and worked 7 days a week from sun up to late at night. There is always something that has to be done at a CG and the visiting RV'ers must be kept happy and safe. You have to attend to the needs of the facility and the visitors with speed, diligence and a smile. It's a really hard and demanding job.

And we wonder why those people that we meet who run campgrounds treat us differently at times.
