storage? For the last 3 days it has been ranging around 110 degrees and the inside of the trailer gets mighty hot. If I open the vents to allow the hot air to escape it will allow dust to get in the trailer. This upsets the DW since she cleans it after each trip so that it will be ready to go for the next trip. If it gets dusty inside she feels that she has to clean it before we leave and again when we get back so she's doing double duty. I tell her (to no avail) that she should just ignore the dust. What do you do with your unit?
I live in the San Gabriel valley, not too far from you. One summer I stored the motorhome with the vents and windows closed, and the heat caused some of the paneling to peel, some of the wod to split, and some of the headliner to fall down. Ever since getting those items repaired, I have always stored it with both roof vents open. However I do have MaxxAir vent covers to keep the rain and some of the dust out.

If DW insists on the cleaning why not just suggest that she save some effort and just give it a "once over" just before your trips. We keep one of the vents open but it has a Maxivent cover over it and we keep it in covered storage. I know we do not have the direct heat problem you have but I think the ventilation is important enough to put up with the dust. If you leave them open, you should consider the Maxivent covers. They are inexpensive and easy to install. They will keep out the rain and slow down the dust. Maybe you and I could invent a dust filter for the Maxivent and make lots of $$$$.
We keep our 3 vents open under the MaxxAir covers all the time while in storage or just away from the camper. Been doing this 6 years now and only close them for winter (snow will blow in).

We like to walk through "used" campers at shows. I was amazed of the campers that had damage from no circulations. Sealed up tight. Like tom states wall paper pealing. ceiling drooping. etc. We use maxair covers. And they are open all the time , 365days a year except when we run AC.
We have Max aire covers, but in the Texas Panhandle when left open for any length of time, you get dirt. The wind blows way too much, and with all the farming there will be dirt. We also have a very dry climate, and thus it really does not hurt to keep them closed when not in use. I had one left open for a couple of months while in Amarillo for some Mor Ride warranty repair work, and when we got it home the bathroom was covered in dirt. In th humid the and can see where they need more circulation.
We are in the lower desert of Ca and we never leave anything open. I mistakenly left the bathroom vent open about 3 inches only to have a 60mph wind sent it to Mexico. $35.oo poorer in repair bills.

We have Shurflo Comfort Series Fans for all three of our vents. We also have the Maxxi-Air Vents Covers on all three of them also. We leave our vents open 24/7, 365 days a year. We don't seen to notice any additional dust from leaving them open. But on the other hand, we also have a Covered RV Port to keep our 5er in. The best part of having air movement in your RV all of the time, is it keeps it smelling fresh and clean. Since we have our 5er at home, its a snap to keep it clean. I am in and out of our 5er all of the time. Always thinking of new Mods to make. You'd think I would have it all done by now, after 40+ years of RV'ing. But I just can't leave well enought alone. I'm always looking to make our 5er even better than what it already is. Good Luck. Happy Camping. Dan & Jill

Add Maxx air covers not only to protect the main cover, but to allow the vent to be opened either in transit or not. Just open vent a little to allow heat to escape when it's in storage. Can keep in same position when traveling as well to aid in air movement. When using the A/C, we crack open the vent in BR to allow heat to escape too (gets a bit warm in BR as hot air rises) and we place a small osillating fan on dresser. Really haven't noticed any increase in dust.
