The other day I was checking underneath my 2007 Seneca just to make sure everything was okay with the drivetrain, suspension, etc. While checking the coach, I discovered that three of the bolts that keep the fuel tank straps attached to the frame were extremely loose. In fact, one of them was within a thread or two of completely backing out. Had the bolts fallen out, I could have lost the tank in the middle of the highway. Not good!! My MH has less than 5000 miles on it. I would guess that the bolts probably were not tight when it left the factory. I would recommend that other Kodiak based MH owners check these bolts. This is just another item I've added to my regular maintenance check list.

Thanks for the heads-up. I checked mine, (also an 07 Seneca) and found both pass. side strap bolts were also loose. Would not want to have found that out the hard way!!

I've been out of town and away from the computer. I'll try to get some pics posted.

I better check mine - at 600 miles I had to take mine to a medium duty dealer and have the front leaf spring shackles tightened. I mean they were LOOSE! - Imagine the front axle coming loose at about 65mph

Thanks for the info

bones67, How did you determine the shackles were loose? Was there noise from the front-end or were you just doing a routine inspection? Bill

These loose nuts and bolts are scary and dangerous. I index the ones I think are important with white nail polish. I put a dab on the nut and one next to it on the bolt or frame and then I can tell just by looking if they have loosened. I do this on lug nuts, front end, gas tank straps and any others that I am concerned about. I have been doing this for years and it seems to work. As owners of RVs which are withstanding lots of vibration, it is important to be very vigilant. I also use a dab of super glue on some which seems to work better than lock-tite. I just back them off a half turn, apply super glue and tighten. It holds well and can be freed without too much effort.

Sounds like quality control issues at GM. I have an '06 Seneca, and i will check that model year to be safe.

Bill - It started making an awful popping noise in the steering while going over any bump or turning the wheel to the left. The GM dealer inspected all steering components and finally discovered the shackles were loose.

Thanks for the heads-up bones67, I have indeed noticed some unusual clunking noises up front while navigating the winding and bumpy gravel road to our place. I'll climb under there tomorrow and take a look but will also get it to the local MD truck dealer. Bill
