Just keep the knob off the radio and put something stronger around it. You could add mods until you could have afforded a new 1 ton diesel. Your still won't have the performance you want.

I agree with most of the above posters. WAY to much trailer for that Cherokee. I have had two Jeep Cherokees and the MOST I would pull is a pop-up. I did tow a pop-up with mine and when I put bikes on the top, it would overheat and barely make if up the slightest hill without a struggle. Both of mine were 6 cyl 4.0L engines. A regular travel trailer would be unthinkable in my opinion. Too much weight and, most importantly, too much wind resistance!
If you want that size of a trailer, then you are going to have to pay to play by getting a new truck.

I'm a newbie to the towed camping scene and am considering buying a 27 foot Mallard or Wildwood. I have a 90 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 that has a 500 lb tow capacity and each of these are in the 4400 pound range. One problem is that the dealer recommends that this vehicle tow no more than 23 feet of length. Sounds like its a 'close but no cigar situation.
Did I read that right? The dealer made a correct recommendation?

I tow my Jayco 254 with my Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8. I would love to have a truck, but it just isn't practical for the other 350 days a year when I'm not towing. My experience is that the short WB is a factor, but slowing down, driving prudently, etc, makes my Jeep setup ok. Not great, but sufficient.
Please don't repeat the Hensley cure to everything including lack of power and short wheel base because it isn't!! Jeeps are great vehicles, my son and I just finsihed a complete frame off on a 77 CJ5, and nothing wheels like a Jeep, but they don't make great TV's. Either upgrade to a 1/2 truck with decent powertrain, or go lighter, something like a PU but the TT you mentioned is way to much to be safe in your Jeep. Sorry I know this isn't what you wanted to read, but trust be nothing is worse than having a TT that is to much for your TV, ask me how I know, been there done that and survived, Thank the Good Lord!!!
