I do not check mine either. It gets what it gets. I think when people see the F-350 crew cab V-10 and ask "what kind of mileage does that thing get" I think it is the stupidest question. Why would they care it is my truck not theirs and it is used for towing a 36ft 5er not picking up groceries or going to the kids soccer game. I usually reply "some where between really awful and terrible". The thing is the truck sits most of the time. I expect it does not use a lot of gas then.

I don't check mine because I don't want to know and it's just more useless calculating. Also, it varies so much depending on the route, wind, traffic, altitude, temperature and so on.

I check mine the first year just to see what it would get under different conditions, Other then that I don't mess with it.

As stated by others my Kodiak 4500 was bought to tow my 5er safely. Just don't care to know what mpg it gets.

I don't care what my fuel mileage is either, but I do care when it is not what it should be. Poor fuel mileage below what "your" normal mileage should be is like watching your temp gauge or charging voltage. Dragging brakes, clogged filters, fuel injection sensors, even alignment problems can affect fuel mileage. You may be able to replace a clogged air filter for $20 and save hundreds in fuel $.

When someone asks, I put my hand up to my ear and say, "excuse me, did you say how much will it pull?" That gets the point accross politely.

Am I alone in not being obsessed with my gas mileage? My TV is a 2004 F-350, V-10, and I know people are just making conversation, but almost everyone, the first thing they say, is: "What kind of mileage you get with that thing?" My response is always the same: "I don't know, never once have checked. It's not good, that much I know, but exactly how bad it is I don't want to know." And that's the truth I knew its thirsty reputation when I bought it, and I know what owners of similar trucks are getting for mileage. I bought it to tow, and it does an admirable job at that. That's good enough for me.
Oh, btw, my daily driver is a Honda Fit, which gets us around quite nicely, but don't ask what kind of mileage it gets either; it's good, but exactly how good I have no idea, nor will I ever know. Calculating MPG and fussing over the results is not something I do. Do you?

I check mine very close not for the mpg itself, but to determine if something might be wrong that is effecting the mpg and look for the reason. I only calculate my mpg when freeway towing and only between full fillups when towing and it's really consistent to within a couple of tenths and if it were to suddenly drop like .5mpg, I would be looking for a reason.

It's a good idea to have some idea of what it costs to travel, but don't be obsessed with it. Just ask your wife if "we can go or not".

only if I suspect that somethin is going south under the hood.

If someone asked me I just respond 10 and that ends the subject.
