I'd call it more of an interest than an obsession. I've noticed E-10 gives about 1-1.5 mpg less but, I filled it twice today, checked and reset the overhead display, figured it's the same 1~mpg optimistic it usually is, and away we went. If it drops to an unusually low mileage, I'll know it might be time for an O2 sensor or something...

I do check my fuel mileage......but I don't turn it into an obsession.

When I was an OTR trucker I tried to keep fuel mileage up. In the OTR truck world 2~3 tenths adds up when you drive 150,000mi a year.

The main reason I check it in my pick-ups is not for the same reason that I was doing it to gain 2~3 tenths on the OTR truck, but instead it would help to indicate of a potential problem if you are out of your baseline mpgs.

I do however try to keep my trucks in tune, filters changed, tires inflated to proper spec, avoid jack rabbit starts, coast to stops, keep speed no more than the limit.

I mean after all, why would you not try to maximize your fuel economy......It just makes good cents.

I couldn't tell you with any accuracy what kind of mileage I get. It really doesn't matter to me.

I check the mileage on my F350 for a simple purpose...I don't need the F350 for towing anymore, but I do need it for hauling the ATV and deer corn and, and, and....and I keep checking the mileage to see if it is so poor that I'd be justified in getting another pickup w/o dual wheels and w/o the Tow Boss....

....so far, the mileage difference between a lightly loaded F350 and a loaded F150 is not enough to justify the $15,000 or so hit I would take on trading in the F350.

That being said, I have to get another putz-mobile to fit in the garage at work, so I am looking for a low cost gas sipper.

Not really anymore. The first year we were out I kept fairly close tab just to see what my range was so we didn't get caught short while boondocking. Now, when I pull in, I can quess how many gallons it's going to need and be within 2-3 gallons. I also run off the top half, doesn't seem so painful that way!! Also, always safe for boondocking longer if we want!

Am I alone in not being obsessed with my gas mileage? My TV is a 2004 F-350, V-10, and I know people are just making conversation, but almost everyone, the first thing they say, is: "What kind of mileage you get with that thing?" My response is always the same: "I don't know, never once have checked. It's not good, that much I know, but exactly how bad it is I don't want to know." And that's the truth I knew its thirsty reputation when I bought it, and I know what owners of similar trucks are getting for mileage. I bought it to tow, and it does an admirable job at that. That's good enough for me.
Oh, btw, my daily driver is a Honda Fit, which gets us around quite nicely, but don't ask what kind of mileage it gets either; it's good, but exactly how good I have no idea, nor will I ever know. Calculating MPG and fussing over the results is not something I do. Do you?

Never check my honda, I know it is good. Never check my Armada, I know it is bad and I always check the Cummins just for tinkering purposes. It doesn't matter to me, I am going to drive it bad or good.

I'm glad you brought up the topic. I used to check mileage after purchasing my truck new last year but lately haven't bothered with it. I figure whatever the mileage is that's the way it's going to be. I drive pretty conservatively so I believe I'm getting the best mileage possible anyway. Besides, knowing what the mileage really is may detract from my love of RVing. Ignorance is bliss .

I check mine quite often, pretty much every fill. It is a great and imo underused tool for noticing engine problems.

I have no idea what the gas mileage is. When the gage gets to half I start looking for a gas station.

We checked initially to double check the car sensor in this matter and see if it was accurate. After that - no.
