We are here in Breck with two teens. What would you suggest to do at the Royal Gorge for a one dayer. We are staying in Breckenridge. Is this a feasable trip for one day? What route would you suggest and how long to get there? Mapquest says 2 hours. I imagine that would be a lot of mountainous driving.
Thanks
David

Looks like Hwy. 9 Through South Park to Hwy. 50 is your most direct route. Royal Gorge Bridge and Buckskin Joe should fill your day. You'll also be close to Cripple Creek/Victor via Hwy. 24 and Hwy. 67 or Teller Cnty. 1.

Phantom Canyon, while a very nice drive, isn't a "speedway/shortcut" between Cripple Creek/Victor and Canon City. To take this drive you should allow at least 3 hours.

As for going to the Gorge from Breckenridge, I'd make a day trip out of it. There is a lot of ways to spend money at the Gorge and keep yourself entertained for a day. Buckskin Joe is a neat place that has been used as a movie set for several westerns. The train ride to the rim of the gorge gives you a different view of it, and at the Gorge itself there are many things to do. It has almost turned into a Six Flags type of place.

I'd opt for Phantom Canyon Brewery over Phantom Canyon Rd. LOL. Can't go wrong whatever you do, you have a lot of choices.

But don't sample the wares of the Phantom Canyon Brewery if you plam on driving the Phantom Canyon Road - or any others in the area! Stay safe-stay alive!

Don't know if you would have time or not, but we went to Canyon City and rafted the Arkansas river. What a blast! Oh and the Gorge is great too!
