I'm looking for good places to go in Oregon for spectacular scenery, wildlife, day hikes, remote camping and solitude!

What are the "must see" places?

My favorite place for whale watching (gray whales) is Depoe Bay. I have never failed to see them from the shore, usually up close. You can also go out in a dory and see whales.

PS: There's also a legendary used bookstore, Robert's Bookshop.

I like Washburn as a base camp for stuff, China creek trail and beaches easy walking from the CG.
Cape Perpetua is within reach as well as the dunes.

Marys peak is also a rather secluded place with wildlife opportunities.

The BLM area around the Public Sunstone collection area is secluded also.

The area up on the NE of Green Peter is also good for scenery, info link.

...if I could only see one thing in Oregon, it would have to be Crater Lake; besides, the place meets all your criteria perfectly: "spectacular scenery, wildlife, day hikes, remote camping and solitude."

Check out Mazama campground and Lost Creek campground in the park. If you stay here, make sure you keep your food secure! Lots of goofy, hungry black bears.

Crater Lake Campgrounds

...whatever you do, enjoy; you've got some great suggestions here!

Crater Lake or Diamond Lake would be great base camp areas.

Another on the east side of the cascades is Twin Lakes or Crane Prairie along the Cascade Lakes highway - they also have absolutely everything you're wanting in your description.

Steens Mountain RV park would also fit the bill if you're looking for really remote. Great opportunity to see the Kiger Mustangs, mountain goats, etc.

Where ever you choose, you'll be able to find all the scenery you care for, enjoy your trip!

We just left Diamond Lake. There is the National Forest campground with no hookups but beautiful spots. There is also an RV park across the street with full hookups. From both parks you can access the 11 mile bike path around Diamond Lake. Just a short drive to Crater Lake from it's north entrance. Also good hiking trails. Now we are in the small town of Oakridge/Westfir at Casey's RV Park. A BEAUTIFUL park right on the river. Tons of hiking in this area. A small grocery store in the area and two gas stations. A couple of restaurants but that is about it. A VERY restful location.

We really enjoyed the mail boat trip out of Gold Beach. We've done that twice over the years and would do it again...

We also love Silver Falls State Park near Sublimity and the many falls you can hike to.

We enjoy the light houses along the coast and stopped at many along the way.

There is a wonderful Campground right on the Willamettte River called Caseys. Caseys is located near Westfer

Near Coos Bay there are some nice parks and Sunset Bay SP. Absolutely beautiful..Take a stroll thru the beautiful gardens right on the ocean..

I love Oregon.

Enjoy
