On the possibility of a blowing plug starting a fire: The way mine is configured, and I THINK all of the modulars are built this way, the plug just can't miss the coil. I'd be amazed if a plug could blow without breaking off the ear with which the COP is mounted. BUT, the pigtail that feeds the COP is plenty long enough to keep it connected and firing in many cases - - for whatever the result may be.
This is PURELY SPECULATION on my part, but I'd guess that at least a portion of the blowouts end up with a fair amount of arcing going on. Some of the folks who have gone through a plug launch might be able to confirm this. I'm hoping we did our inserts well enough that WE won't be the ones to witness the event!
The reason for spelling is so that all of the words don't look the same.
Ford didn't switch to the 8 thread plug till 03. Prior to that there is more risk. There are also issues with the "long nose" plugs breaking off and there is also a plug design with a kind of V taper to the threads that can be an issue.

Must confess that I just now looked at the link provided by djevans in his post above.
Two items in particular caught my eye - - the one about the fire (with pictures) and the other about later models also spitting plugs.
There are several mentions of Ford denying there is a problem. It reminds me of when I bought a new Chev pickup with the converted - to - diesel Olds engine in it. At around 2900 miles, it broke the crank, threw a rod, and ruined the torque converter. When it was hauled to the dealership, the service manager was astonished - - said he'd never heard of such a thing. I was to find a few days later that they had OVER FORTY similar blocks in their "warranty bone yard." They only paid for part of the replacement, but I did get some more refund from a class action thing several years later. A check arrived in the mail - - totally unexpected.
