Dunno what *most* RVers use. We use AT&T and an air card.

I have not used it yet, but I have read on this site that you can tether your phone to a laptop and get similar service to an air card, without the cost of the card and the 2year contract they charge at $60 per month. I like Verizon best, its what I have always used though.

I use Hughes Net that I obtained through Maxwell Satellite. I went that route because I camp in a lot of places where cell service is just not available.

I use the motosat system. Its internet anywhere. Pricey but worth it to me. Found that cards have dead spots like any cell service you cannot get cell everywhere. I have been in two places in three years that had 0 cell service.

We use an aircard with Verizon access and have no problems. You can tether a phone and access the internet that way however most phone companies bill separately for phone service and data service and accessing the internet that way can get expensive.

Actually this is not true at all. With AT&T tethering is available at the same price as a card but without purchasing a card by committing to a long term plan. It also works for only $20/month using their MediaMax Bundle but violates their updated usage policy.
As for good deals, depends on your requirements. satellite will give you connectivity in the most places but I'm not sure you would consider it a "good deal". The best deal IMHO is to spend $45 on a USB antenna/adapter and "borrow" wifi as needed at no additional cost.
