Looking at some new haulers and have a question, what are the pro's and con's between a 5er and a pull behind? I'm looking at some that are in the 30 to 32 feet range. Really like a garage also so choices a limited.I already have a pull behind but what would make you buy a 5er instead? Any advice?

This is one of those topics that have folks divided in the past, kind of like what is your favorite sports team.

With a 5er you loose bed room, don't have to worry about sway control systems

IMO a 5er tows better, the SIL wouldn't agree. We have a little head room, I feel confined in their TT.

i just upgraded to a 39 foot 5er from a 30 foot pull behind, night and day difference in towing, no more getting blown off the road when a semi passes. i dont know about loosing bed room, my 5er has way more room in the bed room then my front bed bumper pull did. and allot easier to hitch up, compared to hooking up swap and wd stuff... I feel safer driving the new trailer. and it is smother ride too

I think he was talking about losing the room in the bed of the truck with a 5er not the bedroom in the trailer.

right on, I can get the generator and a bicycle in the bed with room for the dog.

More than that and there is no room for the wife

Other than the entry steps: 5esr have steps. TT's don't. When you get older, steps are no fun! I like everything on the 1 floor plan! Same with my house. All on one floor, no basement, no 2nd floor! All wheelchair accessible for my old age!

I just upgraded in the last month from a TT to a 5ver. Wow.. what a difference in towing. I can drive with 1 hand now and never, ever worry about sway. That alone made a world of difference to me. Then again it's all about your personal needs. If you want to go big (> 30 foot) then a 5ver would be the only way to go in my opinion.

We had 2 TT'S and now have a 38 ft 5er husband says the difference in how comfortable it tows is worth every bit of small space we lost.
Doesn't matter in our case since our 5er is a toy hauler the only thing in the bed is wood and maybe sometimes a cooler also the roominess issues depends on a few things, layout is one and slides which add a lot of weight is another.
We went to go buy the Raptor 3712ts but when i walked in it felt squishy to me because of the very reason i wanted it, The bar. So we chose the 3612ds exactly the same layout without the bar feels very roomy i just happen to be someone who doesn't like small enclosed places not everyone is like that and not having slides doesn't bother them at all.
The walk around bed is so great we are mid 40's and crawling in and off the bed gets old really quick. Also the hitching up is so much easier my husband can do it in less than 5 min and that includes jumping out to throw the hitch handle so if it happens to be raining works out better we saw all of our 5er friends doing that while we got soaked hitching up TT.
The only loss we thought of was the bed of truck but we just put a few bikes in there which now are in the TH garage.
We have a friend that owns an escalade with the 10 ft garage can only fit rhino so since he has a long bed truck he stands the quad up so he still fits things with the 5er attached

You have to buy what works best for you. There are places I wouldn't take any trailer in our Utah mountains, however I'm more limited with a 5er than a TT. I have several friends that have either clipped the cab of their truck or smashed their bed rails with their 5er...doesn't happen with a TT. A consideration that is definitely true with the 5er is the fact it has a really nice bedroom up front and tows very nice. Additionally is the fact you can get more slides, hence more space with the 5er. This does weigh more though. Ultimately, there is some give and take with either decision that only you can make. Think about how and where you are going to use your trailer, what you are going to pull it with, look at all your desired options and pick out what works best for you. If you buy what you want...you'll never go wrong since you only should be trying to please yourself and family. Best of luck to you.
