Seems like any time we even get close to major city its rush hour traffic and road construction. St louis at rush hour more than once on both 55 and 270 Louisville Kentucky Cincinnati Ohio one going one coming back South side of Chicago and Gary Indiana both coming and going Milwaukee wis headed for door county, Found a different way home that time. Then there is Pigeon Forge along with who knows how many others trying to get to their resort. Are all check out times and check in times the same every where we go so that we all hit the road at the same time. Found out how good the brakes work going in to Rockville for the covered bridge festival after dark. You ever see that deer in the headlight look just glad he didn't look that night. ALthough the more you are on the road the experience you get things that used bother me sure don't any more. Just play it safe and take our time' we will get eventually

Have you ever waved to the Washington Monument from your RV? We did. Hubby decided to use GPS directions leaving Cherry Hill Park instead of going back the way we came in. GPS systems are great but don't tell you about roads you can't go on!

Coming home from the not so educational trip to DC three years ago when it rained so hard a lot of the Smithsonian had to close down for drying up. The CG lost electric for 2 days, my nice neighbor let me have a little 120 volt for AM coffee. But that's not the half of it. We tool along through MD, NJ, enter NY and get caught in a slow uphill crawl to the GW bridge, and I am just praying that the trans temps stay within the OK range. We get through that, claw our way through coastal CT and finally turn north on I84 and I'm feeling kind of better when the wife starts with a very intense fear/warning voice of "what are you doing?" Turns out the lane drop happened quicker that I anticipated and both sides don't give a rat's a** about how much momentum the guy with the TT has. It sure slows down good going uphill. That day was the proof. And I thought I was a careful, vigilant driver. So we took one more break and headed home to change the undies.

Got rear ended in Ensenada, Mexico by a propane truck on our first day in Mexico. Crushed the rear bumper on the fifthwheel camper and punched 2 holes in the fiberglass. Totaled the propane truck! We continued on to the next campground and patched up the holes...continued on to the southern end of Baja.
The driver of the propane truck was at fault and the policia treated us very well. We settled on the spot for the repairs to our rig, and we had a great 3 month vacation.

Houston trip one blow out, 2 more flat tires. 112 degree's.
Took scenic route back, checked DOT site to make sure it was a good road...it was, but they failed to finish it.
Managed to find a road to take me home and on the way back I found myself in the left lane just tagging along with the trucks and looked down and was going over 70, asked myself why rush? Merged back into the right lane and the truck that was behind me moved up and was hit head on by a car that crossed the median......horrible accident that would have been me had I not moved over. Found the nearest CG, spent the night and gave some serious thought about RV'ing and life in general.

In 2000 on trip from Farmington, NM to Santa Fe. Saw the sign just outside of Farmington that said road construction next 115 miles. Thought they just forgot the decimal point and it was 11.5 miles. Wrong it was 115 miles of pure hell. That was the only time we ever broke dishes or had things thrown on the floor of the FW.

One we remember - 1995 on our great 4 month 12,000+ mile tour of Alaska and back. In Dawson City - decided to take the Top of the World to Tok. Ferry not crowded- good. Pavement Ok until the TOP - snow!. Down past Chicken - rain and MUD and construction - BIG rocks hidden in the mud!. Part way down - slip sliding along noticed the trailer (25ft. fiver) was leaning strangely. Got stopped and out to check - spring hanger on left side (rear) broken!. Brake wire broken!! It might not have been the middle of nowhere but you sure could see it from there - when the rain let up! Managed to limp on down into Tok - Sunday all closed./. Monday AM in the garage found a welder who made a new hnger and fixed the brake wire and on we went!!
Two - jan. 2, 1993 (our first post-retirment trip) left Tricities WA for the OR. coast. Needed 4wd to get up the Kennewick hill in a mini-blizzard. Snow continued all day. In Columbia Gorge on I 80 - about 6 inches of slush. Neede 4wd to maintain control of the fiver and amke any progress. fell in behind a commercial semi, travelling about 30 MPH. here came a women driving a big new caddy - trying to go about 65 and passing us both. Right beside me she lost it and fishtailed all the way past the semi before hitting the guard rail sideways. Neither semi nor I could stop so we waved (actually saluted??) her as we passed. Stopped in an RV park in troutdale for the night and made a BIG snowman before dinner!
Many more since then but these are the "best".

I got thru it with what must be a record of striking only one bridge abutment!
No video game every produced rivals that trip.
