I have tried maybe 1/2 dozen times to get my gennie to fire up my A/C without success.
I was meeting some friends to do some grounds maintenance at our bird dog club and my one friend (who is an electrician) told me to bring the generator along so he could check it out.
I had the TT set up with all the normal stuff running and turned on the A/C to just run it for a while (on electric) when he told me to get the generator out. I turned everything off and hooked it up...talked to him about some of the tricks I heard on here to try to get it started. He said just try to start it first so he can see what happens.
I turned the fan on first, which I usually do, then after about a minute I flipped it to low cool...and it started right up and ran without so much as a burp. It didnt even seem to be working hard....and pumping out nice cold air as I stared at it dumbfounded....LOL.

He didnt have one...so I'll ask here. Any explanations for this.

I will try it again in a couple of weekends but I already feel better about my purchase. Problem is I dont know what I did differently other than running it off electric before using the gennie. Could that have been the difference?

Because you aren't starting the fan and the compressor at the same time. Even the fan has a starting load that's probably 2X it's operating load.

My son's did something like that, it was running his AC ok then the next day it would not run it. I was at my son's house a month ago and he used his Yamaha 2400 to run a cut off saw, it worked for two days just fine then when I was there it started acting up and would not run the saw. He took it in to the Yamaha shop and the electronic board was bad. Keep trying it off and on and if it starts acting up again take it in to a shop to get it fixed.
