Hello Again,
My loveley bride and I are back from our first weekend in the new right and I have a couple of questions for you veterans out there.
Question One: While the 2 hour drive was reasonably comfortable we were wondering what opinions there might be out there on the effectiveness of air ride couplers (such as 5th Airborne). The jerking wasn't bad, but it was certianly noticable and could get uncomforable for longer drives. Does anyone have an opnion here?
Question Two: For some reason, we keep blowing one 20amp fuse that is wired for the kitchen lights. We've got it on the delivery punch list for dealer repair, but is there anything I can do in the interim? Perhaps I could shove a 30amp fuse in the slot. Is that good, or bad?
Question Three: The kind gentlemen who delivered my coach to me never closed the valves on the black/gray tanks. So I go to empty my tanks for the fist time and....well you can figure out the rest. we laugh at it now, but at the time it wasn't pretty. Now, of course I've got the "close the valves" step on a pre-departure check list, but is there a way to sanitize the tank drain pipes (since they served as holding tanks for two days)? Of course I had chemicals in there, and I did shove a 10lb bag of Ice in there with chemicals and dumped again after a few miles, but I didn't know if there was another trick I hand't tried.
Thanks to everyone for the help!
By the way, we loved the weekend, even with the unusual experiences. We can't wait until the 4th!

Can't answer 1 for you but....
2. Assuming you're talking about a 12 volt system, then it's not a good idea to go the a 30 amp fuse. Find the short that causing the problem. Could be one light is bad. If it's a 110 system, it may be as simple as a bad breaker.
3. Pipe is really not going to be a problem. When you rinsed the tank with the gray water and then clear you took care of the problem. However, I suggest a change in your list. The black valve should never be open unless you are dumping. And normally, don't dump with less tha 3/4 of a black tank. If you are just weekending, add water to the black before you dump and head home.

1. As for a Fifth Airborne I just finished my third trip with one. The only problem I can see is it is so smooth I forget the trailer is behind me. With a P3 brake controller, the Fifth Airborne and a DMAX diesel most of the time there is almost no feedback from the trailer. About the only thing that has much response is the fuel gage.

1. 5th Airborne is great and RCMAN46's analogy is right on.
2. If its in a slide out check for a nicked wire on the underside of the slide. Have had that happen twice on two different units.
3. solution w/bleach sprayed into will work but i wouldn't worry about it

1. Have you looked at a TrailAir Pinbox? Probably a cheaper, smaller solution with the same results.
2. If you put the 30 amp fuse in, some other 20 amp component in the circuit will burn out - and if it happens to be a wire that gets hot, it could catch something else on fire before it burns in two. Find the problem and fix it properly.
3. I wouldn't worry about sanitizing the line. It will get plenty of rinsing out the more you use the trailer and drain the gray water tank.

1: Another 5th Airborne owner. It worked out great for my setup.
2: A screw could have nicked a 12V wire. Putting in a 30A fuse is BAD.
3: What everyone else said.
Happy new camper!

I always get a kick out of this comment. If you forget that a 30+ foot rig is behind you, then you probably lost it somewhere along the road.
I too run a 5th Airborne and while it certainly helps, I always know it's there. And even with a 5thA, some roads will still beat the black water out of you.

My travel buddy has the Airborn and I have the TrailAir He claims his works great and I feel the same way about my TrailAir. I would check in the cost before making my decision. As for how well they work, they are great. I was talking to a guy you transports FW from the factory to the dealers and he had just delivered a FW with the TrailAir pin. He said "I have probably delivered over a hundred FW and this is my first with an Air pin Hitch and the difference is remarkable". Trust me though you will never forget the trailer is back there. there several brands on the market including MorRide, TrailAir, AirBorne.
Good Luck.
