I have used an Equilizer hitch for over 4 years without any of those problems. Mine is the one rated for 1000 hitch wt. and the hitch is only about 750 lbs.

Now that I have it set right, I love my Equal-i-zer again. I changed the receiver over the winter and finally got the hitch dialed in right.
There was a post a few weeks ago on here about someone's bars having a bend in them. Perhaps this is what is happening to yours. It would explain the distribution trouble. Last week at the campground, someone was making lots of noise coming in. We figured they had an Equal-i-zer. Nope. I don't know what it was, but it was loud. I think most hitch setups make noise. And if thats what it takes for safety, I can live with that.

I bought from Equal-i-zer replacement `L' brackets with nylon (?) pads that were attached to the bottom of the `L' which minimizes the noise but doesn't eliminate it altogether.

You can either have "messy" or quiet but probably not both. Your Equal-i-zer should allow little, if any sway with your set up. Have you checked your tongue weight? Did you re-configure the hitch when you changed TV's? There are a lot of adjustments on an Equal-i-zer that allow them to really be fine tuned. If your tongue weight is where it should be, (12-13% of TT weight) you can set an EQ up pretty well by checking hitch height per installation instructions, and then measuring fender well heigth before hooking up and after with the bars in place. The "squat" front and rear should be very close. Within and inch or so max. The instructions give the maximum allowable. The only way to tell if your tongue weight is adequate and if you are getting proper weight transfer to the front axle is to go to a scale. Weigh your truck without the TT then with it hooked up, both TV axles and the TT axles and then weigh the TT by itself and weigh the tongue. I have towed a 23' TT with a Jeep GC, (very short WB), with an EQ and had no sway problems. The L brackets will show some wear. They have a lot of friction on them which is what makes the hitch work. My L bracket retainer pins have bent slightly and I think I will replace them and keep the originals for spares. The wear is not surprising when you think about the forces but on the hitch parts when traveling through dips and bumps. Traveling on level ground is one thing but even some driveways put the hitch at a pretty extreme angle and tremendous torque. I think if you get your hitch set up properly you will be happy with it. Then you can decide if you want messy or noisey. A lot of folks on here have talked about different ways to store the bars to avoid the mess.

A picture of your setup would help alot. I love mine. I can't imagine an easier hitch to work with. I have a cover for the ball and a rag for cleaning the bars as soon as I unhook them. Took me over a year to get everything setup right. My main problem was that I didn't have enought washers.
Here's mine

Happy Dual Cam HP user here. They require hitch ball and WD bar ends to be greased, and the cams get vaseline. So I wear gloves and take a paper towel to the lubed parts when I hitch up and unhitch. I am a nut for perfect suspension and my rig is nice and quiet.

I'm very satisfied with my Equal-i-zer hitch. Like ddav15, I opted for the 1000lb setup, even though my tongue weight was around 750lbs. I torque, tighten and grease at the beginning of the season and that's it. I purchased the L brackets with a nylon pad on them, which helped the noise some.
I have ZERO wear and tear issues, ZERO "perceptible" sway, and very little noise.
I'm sure I would be happy with the dual cam setup too, though I really like being able to leave the Equal-i-zer attached to the truck and just push the bars up close to the bumper.

I live with the noise rather than dealing with lube. Each his own.
When I picked up my TT, dealer installed the parts on the a frame. I had the hitch installed already on the vehicle. He did mention to me once TT is loaded and truck is loaded I would have to move up a notch.
I think your problem might just need an adjustment.

I pitched mine when I got my 1st Super Duty. I noticed that the TV suspension did not move at all when I hooked up so I ditched the WD hitch.
I have found no reason to use it as the TV does a great job of towing my TT, and I hated putting it on and taking it off!!!!
