Ok, I know you zip the windows and door shut but what about the top? Even with the rain fly on it seems like you would just be losing the air through the top. Is there tents that have a zip closed top for a/c? Sorry, if this seems dumb! LOL

I've actually been wondering the same thing. We've got a portable A/C for our PUP and I would like to use it in the tent, too. But all that mesh on the ceiling? Seems like an uphill battle doesn't it?

you could use a 4-season tent. They don't have mesh ceilings and you could even cover up the windows.

The only thing about not having the mesh ceilings is when you don't have electric for the a/c. There should be a tent with a zip up top mesh thing.

If you use a large enough AC unit, it won't matter. As the tent will be leaking the cooler air out through all kinds of places including the walls, just overpower the space you're trying to cool. You may have to determine if you're trying to cool it at high noon or just when you are sleeping-two different outcomes. Hope this helps.

Since cold air settles you're gonna have a bigger problem losing the cold through the fabric than out the top. I wouldn't let that discourage me though. I've seen several tents with A/C's in them. My thought would be that any is better than none.

We have a 7500 BTU we take with us when it's real hot. We dont run it much during the day, just at night to cool down for sleeping. The mesh on the top of the tent is not an issue. More air leaks from other areas then the mesh will lose. Besides like has been said before, cool air settles to the floor and the heat will rise out the top.

Some friends of mine say it's not camping, but when it's 90 degrees and the humidity is up, it's a big help. I can do pretty good during the day, but when it's time to sleep and it's still 80 or 85, the air is nice. We've also used it during the day for naps. I carry 4 bricks to set the unit on, and it works fine.

DD's tent is a cabin tent ,friends that use portable ac units in the dome tents use all sorts of blankets to cheap light weight sleeping bags to cover dome hole, bungie it down to ground stakes. the best one i've seen for insulation purposes was the old army wool blankets ,the tent was cold inside. The one that did'nt work as well was BF's solar blanket on his dome tent.
