If you are planning on traveling I-5, or staying anywhere in the greater Redding area for the next several days, be forewarned. The conditions here are miserable. Smoke from over 100 fires have limited visability and breathing the acrid smoke is very unhealthy. I have been couped up in my house, windows closed, and air conditioning on. No relief in sight. Too many fires, not enough fire fighters.

As Horace Greeley once said: "Go west young man". I know fuel is bit pricey these days but I would think your health is worth a lot more than the expense of driving to and camping along the coast ..... isn't it? The only reason I haven't left Hilt yet is I have to take a stress test this Friday. Then it's off to Coos Bay.
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

On the news this morning they stated that there were 700 wild fires in northern California. Not to mention southern CA.
Lightening strikes triggered most of them.
Fortunately, many were quickly controllable. If they all become a major fire it would not be possible to control them all.
Normal humidity in the San Jose area, according to the news, is 35 percent. On Saturday it was 100 degrees and 11 percent humidity. We are lucky to have so few fires at this time.

Closest one I believe is on the Napa/Solano County line. We came through Clear Lake yesterday and it was smoky, but no problems. There are so many fires burning in NoCal that you would be hard pressed to go anywhere without some smoke. We left Santa Rosa in the AM and had smoky conditions all the way to Truckee.
Just came from Willits this afternoon. Very smokey between Willits and Ukiah, letting up as you get closer to Santa Rosa. Going over this morning on Hwy 20 around clear lake, the morning sun was just like a great big RED ball trying to shine through all the smoke. I could not see any fires but there were CDF fire crews staging along Hwy 20.

There were (7:00 a.m this morning) 90 fires burning in Mendocino County (Willits), according to "The Ukiah Daily Journal" and the "Willits News".
I live on the North Shore of Clearlake and I cannot see the hill behind my house......I live 1 block from HWY 20
My boss was in Ukiah today and said when she was on 101 enroute to Lake County, visibility was about 500 feet on 101.......
I sure hope for containment to help the folks with property and homes. I will be going through there just before the 4th of July so I hope they have them out by then.
