Mike,
Great job and I'm impressed with the modular set up that you created plus the fact that it stores in your storage compartment.

Thanks also for sharing the pictures.

Fantastic thread. I'm new to the pup game and we're taking our first trip this weekend. Next week, this will be my project to get done before we do our second trip.

Ruide..... can I ask a question? Your drain connections (shower and sink) look to be bigger than a standard garden hose hookup size. Is that fact, or do they just look bigger in the pics?

Greg, Yes they are 1 1/2 inch pipes versus the garden hose which will be 5/8 in diameter. Typically you get this adapter to connect to a garden hose but I had problems with drainage. I used the sink drain connectors or you can make your own adapter to use a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch sump drain hose.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! We are heading out on our first pup trip tomorrow!!! We've got it out and getting loaded up right now. I finished my PVC drain connection about 10 minutes ago. The problem I ran into was similar to one previously mentioned.... by the time I have downward slope, and a good connection, my drain is lower than the inlet on my gray water tank. I'll make it work though

It's my pup's water tank that got in the way a bit.

Thanks again for all the input in this thread folks.

Aha!!! (that's what a PI says when he finds a clue )

That's why you don't need a vent tube in your system. It's the smaller 5/8's tubes that need an air chamber to allow for better air/water flow. I'd never read your write up close enough, but now I get it. Good thinking!

A vent is needed if the drain lines form a secondary trap.

shows the hose drooping down forming a trap. There is a trap built into the sink bowl fitting. Two traps casue slow draining without a vent past the first interior trap.

Note Ruide's setup doesn't cause a secondary trap:

Some times the larger 1 1/2" piping creates enough of a back flow for the air that it will remove the need for a vent. Other times it won't.

For slow flowing drains the first place we look is between the sink bowl fitting and the trailer fiting mounting. The tubing will often sag forming a secondary trap. We can usually twist tie the tubing up or cut it in length to make sure it flows down hill all the way.

As for the low outlets on some trailer, a number of folks have done the "axle flip" to gain the 4 inches of so in height to give them more room.

The low drain fitting on the 3606 is a pain to deal with too! I use a 25 gal blue tote and have it connected to the sink drain via a 6-8 " piece of hose (came with tote) that screws onto the vent for the blue tote. I leave the large cap ajar to prevent pressure from building up and it seems to work fine. The white hose that came with the tote is a bit too short for my liking so I'm going to look for some 1-1.5" tygon tubing so I can place the tote in a better spot next time. There is a bit of a loop in the drain hose since the top of the tote is higher than the sink drain fitting, but it drains fine...perhaps it will drain even better with the larger diameter tygon tubing in place.

Good luck with the mods and have a great trip.

Greg, You are welcome.

Regarding venting, Mike makes a good point on secondary traps. In my journey from garden hoses to hard piping - I tried 1 1/2 inch sump hoses including running it from one side of my PUP to the other. They drained a little better but most times I ended up with a hose filled with gray water which created guite a mess when breaking camp

I was just on one of the internet stores to purchase a repair kit for my toilet and saw that they have a special running on the tote tanks from both Thetford and Barker. They were also offering free shipping.

A tip on getting the tanks to completely drain. I try to let them get at least half full before emptying. Keeping them open all the time lets stuff build up on the bottom of the tank.
