Since installing my Equal-i-zer I have had a difficult time un-hitching my 2007 Jayco Jay Feather Ex-PORT 17c from the Equal-i-zer ball. What happens is the Jayco hitch (lock/release lever) will not lift up and over the ball mounting location. The setup is rather new...just a 2007...and kept very clean.

Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to get it to release? Should the Jayco hitch lock/release lever be lubricated?

Thanks for all your help!

Is it just not releasing from the ball or is it just not able to lift high enough?

If it's height I have a similar problem with our new trailer so I just put two of the Lynx Leveler blocks under the tongue stand so it'll lift higher. It's not a matter of the Equal-i-zer ball, it's just a smiple 2 5/16 ball but I do find that the new trailer has a harder time dropping completely on to the ball. I had no such problems with our previous trailer, both made by Starcraft.

Shoot some WD-40 in there to loosen it up!

After hitching up your trailer to the TV,use your trailer jack to lift up both the rear of the TV and trailer touge. This will put the wd bars in a much easier postion to hook up,do the reverse when unhooking. This is what I use to do when I had a TT and my neighbors do the same. This will also work on a sticking trailer hitch.

Also, if you simply cannot get the latch lever to move, try pulling the TV foreword just a bit to unload the latch.

Everything that moves or has metal-on-metal contact should be lubricated.

Maybe the hitch ball is too large ? Some have an adjustment nut under the hitch that may need to be loosened for the latch to move. A 3 ft crowbar may be called for. Check for proper ball size when you are able to get it to release. Trailer should have the ball size stamped on the front near the latch.

Jayco uses that stupid reverse coupler. I still have trouble getting the ball to slide out sometimes. Usually you have to pull the tow vehicle forward just a smidge and it will drop off. Just make sure your TT is chocked real good so it doesn't move. It is the only thing I hate on my Jayco.

I've owned a couple of Jayco TT's and never had any problems with the couplers. I do however keep the ball and coupler lubricated as mentioned in prior replies.

It just will not release the ball when I am trying to un-hitch. I've tried where the receiver and hitch are at travel height...and also lifting the hitch up...to try and have the hitch lock/release lever release. But that thing is stubborn! Most of the time...I cannot even get the lever to move. Don't like this hitch on the Jayco...
