Is this something new? That has always been a warning in their manual (at least in mine) which says to lower the number before cruising to high altitudes.
Of course, they don't say how much to deflate it, and they don't define "high altitude." Around here, 1,000 feet is a tall mountain, while someone in the Rockies would scoff at that and barely consider it a hill worth mentioning.
My understanding of the RV model is that it is the basic 4000 model (almost bottom of the line) with longer hoses, and is available in either queen or short queen sizes. No more, no less. But then again, I'm no expert.
To the OP: what model do you have at home, that you love it so much? I'm guessing it's a higher end model? I have the RV model and I don't love it. Are we just different in what we like, or do you have a much nicer version at home?

Don't really remember the model # but yes it is in the top end as it is a pillow top. We have had it for about 4 years now and it's great.

If you're considering the RV model, make sure you can check it out in person before buying it. I'll bet it's different, and I would hate for you to be disapointed because you have high expectations.

The sleep number people should be able to answer the differences question for you. We have been looking at them for both the house and the MH. we are fortunate in that the Dolphin has a standard queen, not short or knocked off corners. During my looking it appeared that the "rv" model came in different rv shapes and sizes that the home ones didn't and they appear to be the 4000 model.
I have run into a couple that had them in both the MH and house and loved them, 15 years for the house and 5 in the MH. Said the pump died in the MH and they called sleep number and a new pump was at the front office of the campground a day later. For those that don't know about these beds you don't need tghe pump to slepp on it just to adjust it.
As to lowering pressure to move alltittudes I would expect it need 5k' or more to even notice the change but if you have the mattress at anything less than 100 I would think it would be ok.

Have had one in our home for over 12 years now and LOVE IT!!!!
We put one in the MH and it took less than 45 minutes to completely set it up! It is a little "different" than the home unit, one thing is that the home unit is a HUGE KING SIZE bed so there is a lot of room to roll around. The short queen is NOT a very comfortable "size" bed whether Select Comfort or standard mattress! However, the Select Comfort IS 1000% better than the matress we replaced!!!!!

I installed the Sleep Number 5000 house model. No problems except drilling two holes for the hoses. The pump is installed in the area below the bed. Very pleased.
