Toilets in RV's don't have a P trap like a residential commode, when you flush the toilet you have a direct shot to the tank, so if you left poop in the tank and it has sat for four weeks no wonder you have a odor!!! You need to do a good tank flushing then pour 1/2 gal of bleach down the commode and put some water in the tank and take it for a drive to slosh it all around and dump and backfill a few more times.
Don't leave ....... in the holding tank for this long again.

I will say that the problem is not enough water in the black tank....

I have never had a problem with odors from my black tank as many seemed to do. Nor have I ever had a problem with sensors not working.

My shower dumps into the black tank, I was really ticked off about this at first but after reading so many posts of odor problems and sensors not working.....I'm beginning to think that the manuf of my MH knew the importance of water and lots of it in the black tank to prevent odors!

yes I know no p trap, but if the bowl seal is worn or not sealing the bowl does not hold water thus smell from ''no water in tank''acts like a barrier. No?

1. did you dump & rinse 4 weeks ago?

2. if not, that's your problem.

3. if so, you have a clog in there and not everthing is draining out. flush it a couple of times until you get good clea4r flow. then it get it set for the next trip with 5 - 10 gallons of water with a cup of laundry detergent and cup of calgon water softener. we had a glog a few years ago. never again.

Yes, and the seal itself should keep the odors at bay as well, but what I am saying is if the odor is coming when the commode is flushed there isn't much you can do. You have a fan sucking air at the same time you are exposing your batroom atmosphere directly to the tank!!

As for dumping your shower in the black tank, I remember a few years ago when some RV manufacturers tried this and many, many owners who didn't check were very upset. I know I would be!!! I like to shower at least once a day when I camp and dumping the black isn't nearly as convienent as the grey. It may work if you have a huge and I mean huge black tank and are all by yourself, or don't like to shower, but for most folks dumping the shower into the black tank isn't a desired plumbing scenario. If it works for you that's great.

Try a vent like this We bought something similar and no more smell at all.

I second Tothill's suggestion. Ever since I spent $18.00 for one of these things, took ten minutes to install it, including setting up the ladder, I have had no odor whatsoever from our black tank. We even dispensed with all chemicals in the tank. Cheapest and most effective gizmo I have EVER purchased for my RV.

shower water in the black tank? Nothing like pouring hot water on poop and creating positive pressure in the tank with a exhaust fan running in the bathroom!your steaming the matter, no wonder it's not that common along with other reasons..
