Battery Equalization is proven over the years and recommended by the inverter companies and battery manufacturers.

I would like to know if using mineral oil to reduce evaporation of the water in batteries and equalization are compatible?

Works for me. Batts bought in 2000 still good. I don't equalize until there is a significant difference in the hydrometer readings from cell to cell.

Desulfation is legitimate. It can be accomplished by chemical means or electronically by imposing a high frequency current over a normal charging current.

Both chemical desulfation with EDTA and the electronic method with a home made desulfator have worked for me. I presently use a Vector 1095A charger which has both desulfation and equalization cycles. So far so good. A full charge, then a desulfation, then an equalization shows a significant improvement as measured by a Midtronics conductance tester.

Home Power Magazine has had some good articles on EDTA.

OK, I bit and paid the 10 bucks....it talks about adding an epsom salt mixture to the battery to remove the buildup on the plates...sounds like a good theory - might have to give it a try on a dead battery sometime.

I have used epson salt with a couple of good results, it will get the charge started on a completly dead battery and saved a couple. worth a try i put about a teaspon in each cell.
