TUBA was our love for over 14 years. We had to put her to sleep this past February. She was not named after the instrument. Neither of us are musicians. We adopted Tuba as she wandered out of the jungle while we were living on Guam. Many wild 'boonie dogs' as they were called. She was a puppy when we first saw her and started feeding her.
Tuba was the name of a local drink. Fermented sap from the coconut tree, often diluted with beer. Quite tasty and strong. Like the ring of it and wanted to give her link to the local language.
We will forever have many fond memories of our time together. Felt so sorry for her on her trip back stateside in the belly of a plane. Looooong trip.
Annie (rat terrier) because she looked like such a little waif when we got her, so she became "Little Orphan Annie",
Then Bonnie came from a shelter with a really stupid name - we were searching around for a better one when I ran into a nice Mexican family at the park, while the kids and Bonnie were loving each other up, the fther was telling me she was "Muy Bonita", so she became Bonita which through our laziness turned into Bonnie.
Charlie, was just a name my spouse picked out of the blue.
Then we got a kitty, since the dogs were ABC, we had to think of a D name, and being a smarta__, I started to call him Dawg, and it stuck.
Next kitty, we needed an E name, and Echo was the first thing that we though of.
Now we have an "F" on the way, a new rat terrier. Anyone have any suggestions?
Julie

My Boston Terrier is named Chance. For two reasons: I loved the movie "Incredible Journey" with the two dogs and cat who travel to find their 'loved one'. Chance was one of the dogs. And, the main reason is he is a 'second chance' for me to have a great little buddy. I got him a few months after my Maltese died.
But it turns out, Chance is the greatest pet I have ever had, bar none. He is a little guy in a dog's body....so intuitive...seems to know all that I feel and say.
Name your new dog what she looks like to you, or thoughts you have when you look at her! Some dogs just look like what they are named, some don't.
I call Chance different things from day to day, hour to hour...he has lots of nicknames...haha. (Chancer, Chancey, Wiggle-butt,BabyC, etc)
Toy Poodles - Ginger just because she was an apricot and I couldn't come up with anything original. Rowdy - we wanted something to do with a bicycle (we're avid cyclists), but Axle, Sprocket, Chain Ring, just didn't do it for us. So, as we were driving to pick him up, we passed the sign for the turn to the Rowdy Creek trail, my husband's favorite ride at the time. So, Rowdy it was.
The previous owner named her Ava and I kept it. I imagine she was named for Ava Gardner. I don't see a resemblence but she does look and imagine herself a star. She is Alaskan Husky/Ibizan Hound. She has brilliant white blue eyes in a white face with large dark ears. She is really stunning. People stop me to say how beautiful she is.
My previous dog was Su short for Susitna--mountain across from Anchorage--the Sleeping Lady. So Su was the sleeping doggie!
Oh, and I think that Lillie could be a perfectly apropriate name for Lhasha Apso,

This was our kid, Gum. A co-worker had lost her dad who raised these little guys and was just devastated by the loss. She asked that I help her with the funeral arrangements which I did. Three days later a litter was born so we named the dog after her father, Gumersindo. He was 15 when he passed away in an accident here at home.
He was a great pal and a real traveler. It has been three years and still very hard to think about replacing him.
However, we are retiring this Fall and I think a new family member is in order and we should call him Traveler.
Our other dog, Tasha, came to us from the streets, abused and bitten up. She stayed for 18 years and as she was in failing health we took her to Big Bend Natl Park three weeks before she died. She could barely walk and we carried her everywhere with us. She couldn't stop wagging her tail. She smiled until the end. It was a memorable trip for all of us.
Amazing how our pets have an everlasting affect on us.
Our 11 yr old male Aussie is Stone. Actually, he is Gentleman Gemstone, but we call him Stone. He is a red-bi Aussie with a little white diamond shape on his head. So, "gemstone"
Our 9 yr old Aussie female is Patches. She is actually Ladysilverpatch, but we call her Patches. She is a blue merle, so looks like patchwork.
They had a puppy born in our MH several years ago. Only 1 puppy. We named her Uno. She had 1 blue eye, 1 brown. She is a black-tri with a white face with 1 black spot on her face. Very unusual and striking. So, Uno.
