Owners of the Dodge 6.7 liter diesel : take heart. My 2008 now has over 15,000 miles on it. Over the past couple of days gallivanting around Colorado without towing, we filled our tank in Fairplay, drove to Buena Vista, up to Leadville, back to Buena Vista, and down to Salida where we filled up. A total of 138 miles on 6.1 gallons. Hand calculated as 22.8 mpg. Best before has been 18 point something. I was gonna be on cloud nine if I could get to 20 mpg. Can you guess how I feel about 22.8? Speed varied between 45 and 60 mph, probably at 55 most of the time.

You have an advantage over my 2007.5 Dodge 3500 w/6.7L engine. Mine is stick, whereas your auto tranny has an extra overdrive gear which I'm sure helps improve mileage. Of course, driving slower is the big key to saving fuel and you drive very much like me: about 60 MPH or less. You're mileage is pretty exceptional compared to many other 6.7L owners who have posted on various forums. I'm pretty pleased with mine too, considering all the emissions stuff they've added to the engine, not to mention the vehicle weighs about 8,000+ lbs. All in all a nice truck, IMHO.

Is 138 miles even long enough to include a re-gen in those figures? If not, your average is going to drop considerably when it finally happens.

Ran up to San Francisco and back (Mesa, AZ) and got 20mpg @75+ mph solo. I was thrilled.

The regen takes a lot less fuel if you are loaded for instance towing or running up steep hills. A regen in town eats the fuel.

If on the hills you get better mileage. At least how I think. YOu burn some more going up but get a lot better going down.

And the Average MPG police on here are bad. If you burned XX gallons and drove XXX miles then you averaged XX.X mpg. There's no real need to average over a bunch of tanks unless your claiming "my truck averages XX mpg" . For that tank you did really well. Sweet, I have a buddy with one of those 6.7s and I can't wait to see how they turn out, they've got big shoes to fill.
