one problem we get from Eternabond used by someone thats not careful is puddling. More is not better in this case. If the sealent is to thick it acts as a dam and water sits on the roof. Is your roof leaking ? If the lap sealent just needs replaced I certainly wouldn't use eternabond for a self leveling lap sealent. When times come to replace it or the fixture, you will cuss yourself for covering the screws up with Eternabond. All thats needed is a caulking tube of Dicor, or simular self leveling product, and reseal the lap joint. Now if your repairing torn roofing material or a large area, then Eternabond is the way to go.

I have not run into the problem you described. Eternabond is thinner than a layer of self leveling caulk. You would have to stack a few layers of it to make it thicker than the caulk.
It only takes one layer to do it right.

It's Dicor self leveling caulking. Comes in a tube that you put in a caulking gun.

It is Dicor for sure. The people at Camping World said they had never seen it in gray.I called another Rv dealer and they said it does come in gray.Who cares , its on the roof. I replaced the old stuff with Dicor and it look great.

Thanks,

Butyl tape is used ONLY if you have REMOVED the vent. It goes between the flange and the roof. Same for windows and such.

The caulk used on roofs to seal over the TOP of the flange is Dicor self leveling caulk.

NEVER, NEVER silicone!

Another, longer lasting alternative to the Dicor self leveling caulk is Eternabond tape. However, a lot of prep work and care is required when applying it to get a good, permanent leakproof seal.

It is Dicor. I just had one of mine replaced and trust me it is dicor. Anything else is going to eat up the rubber roof material. As Mousefart said "NEVER, NEVER, silicone!" Bad stuff on them roofs.

This stuff is like play dough and is common on all rv's. It is not a tape, but a putty like sealant with a 2' width. It is on my vents, skylight and antenna. I can't believe it is this hard to find out what this is. I am going to take a picture and take it to Camping World tomorrow. Does anyone else have this on their rubber roof ?

I do.. It looks like someone was in a hurry and just slapped it on. If it was the self leveling kind it didn't work. I haven't had to replace mine but I'm sure it will be interesting when I do. Good luck.

what it sounds like in your description is plumbers putty, and if so was the wrong material for the roof vent...

I have never seen dicor in gray, but that sure don't mean they don't make it in gray, but surely isn't common in RV's...

the gray plumbers putty is a common sealant for the windows though...

what kind of camper is it...

Maybe it is just stained on the surface & it is actually white. If you dig into it a little, is it grey underneath?

As mentioned by another poster, the common way RV's are sealed is with putty-tape or butyl-tape (and they are "tapes")under the flanges of vents and then the seams are topped-off with self-leveling sealants depending on the type of roofing material.
