This is my first time back in this forum in forever. We live in the south of Mexico, in the state of Quintana Roo. We're thinking seriously of leaving Mexico to see the grandfolks (we are the ones with the grandkids ) as it has been over 2 years since we've seen them. One big change is that we'll be going Mexico all the way to California.

So, for us, like Chris, the big question is, "will you leave Mexico for the US?" and for us, it is a measured, tiny, "maybe". Still have to crunch the numbers...

Just hanging out here at home (Quintana Roo). HAven't been here for a while since we haven't RV'd MExico since winter 2007. Didn't really feel like I had much to offer since we're not moving around. We're looking to travel up to Chihuahua in Septemberish and head over to Mexicali so I guess we'll be RV'ers again! Even though we live in our rig (and palapa) we're not moving around the country and I don't feel like I have much to add...

Just read in the WSJ the other day, that several wealthy Mexican entreprenurs are pooling their money to buy back real estate in Texas. Mostly homes in foreclosure and land - lots of land. They want it back - take it from me sell it to them!

I mentioned this earlier, we had a three-day event here in Monterrey called "Texas For Sale" offering new properties that were not being sold as well as foreclosures. South Padre Island is home to many Mexican owners. I don't have the numbers but some of the newer towers with 3 and 4 bedroom condos starting at $500,000 dollars are all owned by Mexicans.

Maybe taking back a bit of what was stolen from them (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California)?

Harvest, very nice palapa, a job well done! Congrats! BTW, we just returned from two days in San Antonio, I choked when I saw diesel in San Antonio at $4.69 a gallon. RV Mexico!

Like Harvestmoon, we decided to forego RVing in Mexico and just live here, in Ajijic. For us, it was all about living in a "walk everywhere" environment, a climate that is great virtually all the time, with only minor difference between summer and winter temperatures.

Gas is pretty cheap here right now but even so we use little of it. I am concerned that the country is not facing reality about this. The subsidies are encouraging consumption in the face of the mega-trend called peak oil. But it is their country and they get to make the call and face the consequences.

Our plan to RV in the U.S. for 2-3 months per year is in jeopardy. Hard to have fun when every mile you drive costs 50 cents and could be costing a buck soon. Unfortunately, our Country Coach is basically unsalable too, another hit to the old pocketbook. Fortunately, we don't have our toys financed like so many do, so we can just walk away.

Hey, I love that Palapa! We're thinking of having our contractor do one on our Mirador.

Chris, you know that you and yours are welcome anytime! We even have room (inside) for guests. Seriously, just name the date and we'll have it ready. We're very seriously thinking of a road trip though for the fall and early winter of this year. Moisheh, I know (think?) you guys have a place in Kino/San Carlos, but you are also welcome.

Dan, if you follow the link under the picture, you can see the construction process.

And, aw shucks, thanks guys. We only did the painting though, the abaniles did the work.

We too are looking for the long-term location. We keep RVing the country because we have not found THE location. Would gladly accept any input as to locations, but do you want to share the best locations? It took us three trips across the USA and lots of online research to find our present location. Plan is to make THE decision about a location within the next six years. Yes Moisheh she agrees!
