just some observations on how the summer season seems to be progressing...
more MH's for sale or have been sold than I can ever remember in any past years... three traded for park models that I know about...
more sites being upgraded some with sizeable investments being made...
more 5er's being set up as permanent
more sites having almost nothing being done...
more people staying home on weekends, although it was up a little this week end...
more in the park during the week, but nothing like the week ends...
more older trailers being moved out of the park, and replaced with new/er ones...
more delinquencies in dues than in many years a trend that started last year, when it had been improving for the last 15 years...
more is good but not always better...
I am not sure what it all means, but I am going to follow the trends and see how things change...

I don't know what it all means. But, I do know that there are no sites anywhere in So Cal near a fireworks show this upcoming Independence Day.

We just took a over 1600 mile round trip to pick up our new to us Casita. From what I saw on the highways, I don't know where everyone thinks rv-ing/camping is slowing down. Ton's of rigs of all sizes on the roads between Colorado and Vegas. A few empty spots at the campground in Richfield Utah, but hey it was in the middle of nowhere Utah. And I must say, I am not a huge fan of KOA's but the KOA in Richfield Utah is a beautiful little park. Not easy to find, But sweet little place. I didn't go into the bathrooms but I would say if they are kept as nice as the campground they would be nice and clean. Bella

I did notice that RV traffic headed away from Minneapolis/St. Paul on Friday nights seems to be a lot less then in recent years. That being said, our campground has been almost full every weekend lately.
Another change is the availability of seasonal sites. Last year at this time there were 3 empty sites available, but now there is a waiting list with over 30 names on it.

From what I have been told destinations like Myrtle Beach are down, but local campgrounds closer to home are becoming more popular as folks are deciding not to travel to far due to high fuel costs. Of course the popular mega CG's in myrtle beach are still full, but I was speaking with a fellow member who is currently at MB state park and he said it was only 50% full. This is unheard of in June/July. I actually called Pirateland to see about a week stay at the end of July and to my shock she said she had a few inland sites to choose from. I know I decided to stay local this year due to the cost of diesel fuel.

Instead of me going there I'm staying here and instead of you coming here you are stay there. Many people are staying close to home and not spending money on the gas. The campgrounds have locals and not so many tourists, which keeps them in business.

I think that RV'ing in General is down... A fellow Moderator who reads the RV News pages just recently told me that Motorized sales are now down 30% and towable sales went even further down from 12% to 30%...
Those who are still camping are staying closer to home, but popular tourist attractions like the National Parks and CG's are still enjoying a reasonable season...
We just cancelled a trip to the local CG because our schedules would have dictated a short stay with my DW chasing back and forth to home - doesn't make sense to do that given the high cost of fuel so we'll cancel that one and go to our 5 day rally in late July instead which is actually further away, but we get more "bang for the buck" given the longer stay...
This scenario will continue on like this IMO until fuel gets to 5 or 6 dollars a gallon and then the bottom will really fall out... Still, those with $$$ will continue to travel as they will be able to still afford the high price of fuel but overall - - things are not looking good for the RV Industry and many other tourist industries to boot...

I have noticed a lot of MHs and 5Ws out in front of peoples houses for sale. The last time we were camping over the weekend every lot in the park was full.
I have noticed the dealer ads offering what I think are very low prices.
And if you put your RV out to sell have the price in large letters so people can read it.

We just got back from the Jersey shore and many campgrounds are offering to store your rig on a site for free, not sure of the details. The CG we stayed was only about 75 percent full on the weekend and less then 50 on a weekday. Seeing a lot of RV's for sale at both the shore and locally in the paper. Also seeing pick ups and SUV's for sale. Gas ranged from $3.95 to $4.15 on this trip.
