Lived in WA all my life but have yet to navigate the Tacoma Narrows or Hood Canal Bridges! Planning to be in Sequim this weekend and was wondering if there is anything that would be helpful to know before towing across the bridges!

Many thanks!

Starting on July 1, 2008 the tolls for the eastbound span of Tacoma Narrows Bridge will increase. It will be $2.75 for Good to Go! transponders. $4.00 for cash/credit card paying vehicles.

If you can get your rig in the travel lane that you have selected, you should have no problem with either bridge.

For the Narrows going west, stay in the right lane. You only pay the toll going east.

There is a "bulge" in the Hoods Canal Bridge, but no problem to negogiate.

Enjoy the scenery.

No problem. Ran Semi from Seattle to Port Angeles many times. Are you staying at Gilgal Resort by chance? Thinking about that one some weekend, would love a firsthand report.

Was wondering why no ferry from Whidbey to Pt. Townsend? Cost of the ferry would be offset by the cost of the fuel. Not to mention the traffic and time. I hear you can call and make reservations now.

Yes, that is where we will be. I will get back with some opinions about the park!

Thought about that quite a bit. Have done that ferry numerous times on our scooters but never with the 5ver. As I understand it, reservations are now required for oversized vehicles on that run. Just wasn't that prepared for this weekend.

Coming from the north, the Edmonds ferry is also an option, though you'd want to avoid the busy times (e.g. Friday afternoon). It only adds 30 miles to the Whidbey option, where as Tacoma adds 100.

As to the Keystone reservations, they appear to be recommended but not required. For cars they can be made on line. For RVs you need to call, but shouldn't take much effort:

'WSF Customer Service at 1-888-808-7977, 206-464-6400 or 511 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.'

From the online car reservation page it appears that Friday afternoon from Keystone may be nearly full. There are also some times the boat does not run due to low tides.

Thanks for the information! You guys talked me into it! We did call for ferry reservations but the lady we spoke with said they were full for the Friday runs. She said to call at 7:00 AM Friday morning to see if anything opened up.

Going through a bit of culture shock with the RV thing. We are relatively new at this (2 yrs) and had no idea that travel plans had to be made so far in advance Speaking primarily about campgrounds but it seems more and more things are becoming issues. Can't find a weekend open in the WA State Parks until the end of September. Several of the local private grounds we have tried are also booked through September.

I guess we are so used to traveling by Harley where they can always find room for a tent etc. Getting too old for that now! Learned some lessons this summer. I am already making reservations for next summer!

Thanks again...Happy Camping!
