How many people have tried to open the Egress (fire escape) Window prior to an emergency?
Is this common practice?
Personally, I never have and don't know if it would go back in afterwards.
Just asking

I suppose different ones work differently. Mine you just slide the window open, slide the screen open, and then dive. I stopped after opening it, I'll save the dive for a real emergency since it will probably hurt.

If your emergency exit utilizes a non-opening window, it will probably require some work to reinstall it. Maybe even require replacement. But, how do you know if it truly will open in an emergency? Do you trust your manufacturer, well, do ya?

mine is back by the bed and has two latches. I open the latches and the whole window, frame and all, swings up. Really simple and easy. I always check my escape routes but like Tim will save the jump for an actual emergency! Sue

Mine has a lever and slide out from the bottom, I open it often to get fresh air in at night. But I promise you if there was a emergency I would run through flames to get out the front door before I would ever try to exit through that so called emergency exit!!!

I open them regularly and train the rugrats in their use regularly. They need to know how to use them on their own.

The one on the lower bunk that hinges out is used at least as much as the front door by my daughter ( When she's not climbing in the rear underneath storage hatch and then out the inside understorage hatch out the front door and around again ).

Emergency Escape LOL!

Only had 1 RV that had a good escape window. Now most are for small people and those with no physical problems.

Yes, you need to check them. If it doesn't go back in you have a problem. It's no time find out when that it's jammed with flames licking at your butt.

All of the ones I have seen are hinged but be aware that this may not be so on your vehicle.

This is a complaint I have when you purchase a unit from a dealer. They almost never operate the Emergency exit with you to show you how it works. The frist time I tried mine I had someone outside to catch it if it falls. Mine was hinged at the top. Hope this gets people to try there's before it is needed.

I can not answer "how many" but I can tell you I've opened both of mine, and re-closed them.

Some RV's, Like mine, you can open and close 'em

Some you can open and replace them (That is once opened you can not re-latch)

There are advantages to both systems but in my case I've used the window for assorted jobs

I tested mine in both my old fifth wheel and my new one. What I really like about my cheapie Wildcat is that it has a large bedroom window that goes all the way to the floor. For escape in a nighttime fire all I have to do is open the window remove the screen (or kick it out), lay on my belly and slide my plump little body out.
