As either short term campers or seasonal residents of campgrounds, I'm curious - how do you feel about locals coming into the campground to use the pool? At the campground where we currently stay, they are required to pay a fee and can only swim certain hours.

There were some locals in the pool recently who brought a radio and didn't bother to ask the other swimmers if they minded listening to their music. They brought food and drink into the pool area, which is not allowed according to the signs, and they played very rough with one another. I wanted to take my kids to the pool to escape the 90 degree heat, but we waited until they left, which I don't think is fair. I sent an e-mail to the management and they were very nice but basically said their hands are tied. Because of the economy, they won't turn anyone away.
I also learned that the locals are allowed to come in and use the laundry facilities as well.

I don't see why it matters all that much but they should have to follow the rules.

I dont mind as long as they are not acting all white trashy. It has only happened to us once and it was an over crowded situation.Campround knew there was a problem but kept letting people off of the street in.We just left, didnt care enough about this particular campground enough to worry about it. I used the water at my site to squirt my 3 year old down.

Like the others, as long as they abide by the rules I do not see a problem.

The CG's we visit do not allow locals...but I don't use the pool much either.

In and around the pool in swimsuits. How do you tell the difference between campers and visitors? Same rule should apply to both.

I have to agree, the OP's statement smacks of elitism which I always find distasteful. Everyone should follow the rules.

I didn't get elitism from OP's post. It looks to me as if allowing locals in to this facility led to overcrowding plus the feeling that the campground facilities should be available for use by campers. I would resent not being able to use the pool because of overcrowding by non-campers, too, I think. After all, having a pool is part of the reason some choose certain campgrounds and are willing to pay a higher fee for the stay. Pool rules should be enforced in any case. In addition, allowing non-campers to roam the grounds might lead to some security concerns, I should think.

I "feel" it is the owner's campground and is free to make whatever rules he or she deems appropriate. I also "feel" that if I don't like a situation in a campground, I will just find another place rather than whine and complain. Not sure about your RV, but mine has wheels for a purpose.

Most of the campsites here in N.Y are in state or county parks,we campers pay extra to camp they locals pay taxes and are entitled to come and go as they please as long as long as they follow the park rules.Campsites would be big bucks without them.
