Hey folks!!

Jeez, I just realized I haven't been online for a while....hope you're all still getting out (even a little bit) given the fuel costs these days.

Last month while traveling to a campground, we blew a tire on our 5th wheel on I-5. When it blew, it broke half of the plastic "fender". My insurance company (American Modern Insur Group)advised me of my $500 deductible. If the cost is higher they said the adjuster determines if this falls under "comp coverage" or "collision coverage". If collision, that could be points on my record. The rep said this is fairly common among rv insurance companies but couldn't quite explain why it could fall under collision (if the cost is above my deductible). Have you heard of this before?
Thanks....

I had a blow out years ago on a 92 Prowler we had. Caseing tore thru the wheel well and took out our pantry, 4' of floor plus had to replace the 1st 3 sections of outside wall. Cost was $4,500, we paid our $500 deductable. That was Farmers, no problem. Sounds as though your company just wants to collect and not pay. I'd dump them...........JMHO

We got Progressive on the truck and 5'er last year when we bought them (used). I dropped the 5'er (hitch failed). Insurance adjuster even said it was the hitch failure and paid for a new hitch and all damage. HOWEVER, even thought it happened in our driveway (pulled 1 ft. and BANG), they considered it collision and my insurance went sky high. I dumped them for Hartford through AARP and saved a ton - even with the 'accident' that wasn't my fault.

I'm pretty sure you have to "collide" with something to have "collision damage".

States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.

He did! Collided with his own tire tread.

I have Progressive rv insurance, had 2 claims. once wind/rain damage to the awning, the other was a blow-out on a tire, both were covered under comp at my deductible.

I would take the tire to a tire dealer and see if the tire manufacture will cover any damage. Carlisle paid for $1700 damage to my trailer after a blow out. Also paid for 5 new tires.

3 of our trucks were sideswiped one night recently by a hit-and-run driver. That person also sideswiped 11 other cars on our street that same night. All 3 of our trucks were covered under the comprehensive part of the insurance policy, minus the $500 deductable for each vehicle. It was definitely a collision and the police report was written as a collision but because the 'accident' was none of our faults (we were inside the house asleep at the time), our rates will not be affected. We have State Farm. I have found that if you go with a mickey mouse insurance company for the low rates, you get bit when it comes time for them to pay on a claim. If you go with a reputable company, you may pay a bit more, but you don't have to fight with them (as much) when claim time comes.

I had a blowout last fall on my TT. Took the tire to Goodyear and was paid for new tire and damage to TT. My insurance was never involved.

I spent 30 years in my own agency. Blown tire is a comp claim. The average damage in my agency to the trailer or blown tire in a dually is about $2000.
A col claim is when your rig comes in contact with something or someone. Your fault or not. The ded will always apply.
