I've owned 3 Cummins and now a CAT. They're both "bullet-proof". It wouldn't drive my RV coach selection! It's the Ford/Chevy thing all over again. I had 2 Cummins in a commercial fishing boat that had nearly 6,000 hard hours on them and only changed the oil, filters etc. The guy who bought the boat from me put another 3,500 hours on them before he pulled the heads & Cummins told him he could have gone another 1,500 hours before they would have done it. So pick 'em, choose 'em, IMHO there ain't a lick of difference between them in terms of reliability. Most RV owners will wear out the coach long before the engine. The 4th guy who buys your coach should worry about it.

we have the 5.9b 12valve engine in our loaders at work and we run them hard 24/7 all 3 have at least 19,000 hours on them, never have no problems with them.

Google up Caterpillar Accert technology and also note the post about Monaco's CAT offer as well. But it's DetroitDiesel that is exiting the MH market account the Volvo/Prevost thing. If I had a CAT I suppose I'd like it. TOM

Locomotiveman..Yes I am a career cross-country Locomotive Engineer. Wife is an RN. We are CLOSE to retiring and 'downsized' to a Monaco Executive w/450hp Cummins and nice drapes. Locomotiveman

There are reports that Cat is going to get out of the OTR truck engine market before 2010.
Someone previously posted a link to the actual news report about it, so it's more than just a rumor.

Nope, there was also a report posted with a link to an actual news report that CAT was getting out of the OTR market also.

I suspect that CAT is having problems meeting the upcoming Emission requirements so will leave the market for Road Vehicles that must comply.

We have put close to 200,000 miles on a CAT and are satisfied with their performance. We belong to the CAT RV Club and they give a lot of support.

However we are not "die hard" CAT fans and feel the Cummins engine line up is on par with CAT's current line up. Either brand of engine will give excellent service in a motorhome application.
