Note: This is a Sportsmobile Sprinter 2500, high roof and 144" wheelbase with a 3.0L diesel.
Most of the fuel involved comes from the same pump and nozzle. This is with all gear, most food and all water, propane.
17.1; 16.7; 18.8; 18.7; 17.4; 14.3; 16.8; 15.6; 17.9 for an average of 17.03.
Most numbers are a combination of city/California freeway with freeway speeds from 65 to 70 mostly 65. The last 3 were with a Scangauge installed posting MAP and MPG. I only look at the MPG as the MAP numbers seem useless as I don't understand what they mean.
The high numbers were 95% freeway miles.

Keith

Our fuel economy improved as the van got to about 10,000 miles. We currently average about 21.3 MPG. Ours is a 2004 model.

Your engine is completely different than the 07-08 and should get better mileage than those.
Your mileage was advertised at 24 mpg as I recall.

Thanks for the 2008 mileage numbers. We haven't seen many actual owner MPG numbers for the newer Sprinter here on the CVC forum, mostly speculation.
We have the older model Sprinter, just returned from a 6-week trip. Mileage numbers and fuel price experience are in our last blog entry (see signature).

We have gotten as much as 26 MPG, just depends on which one of us is driving and under what conditions. If we stick to 55 MPH there is a vast improvement in the MPG.

That's only 3 mpg better than my old Chevy 5.7L. Not sure that's such a good deal with diesel being nearly $1 more per gallon.
If I were in the market for a diesel, I suspect I'd be looking for a B with the I5 engine.

Thanks Keith!
I've been hoping to hear MPG reports on the new engine.
Julie/David,
Do you guys remember how much engine break-in effected MPGs on your rigs? I've heard some people say it's not an issue any more - but other reports that diesel fuel efficiency does improve after 5K or 10K miles.

If these figures are going to be the typical MPG of the new V6's, I do not believe that you could ever recover the Sprinter premium paid at the time of purchase and I am not even including the extra you pay for each gallon of diesel.
Incidentally, I also have a Chevy 5.7L and I consistently get 16MPG on the road (which is 95% of the mileage put on my 2002C 190P).

Shane, I have kept a running record of all fuel used in our LTV and there has been no detectable change in MPG from day 1 as far as break-in. I have always heard reports of differences in MPG in vehicles after break-in but my personal experience does not show that, in the Sprinter or other vehicles. As I have said before on these threads, I do not drive in a manner that optimizes MPG so that may have a bearing on my experience. I do keep detailed records so tank-to-tank variations are evened out.
