Haven't checked lately I used to get three trips to work on one tank o gas. Now i only get two using 10% alcohol. That means it costs me $50/ week more just in the inefficiency of alcohol...Add to that the increased food prices due to the increase in grain from the fuel v/s food competition..alcohol will break the bank.

It's pretty much a wash- ethanol is cheaper than oil now, so cost wise it winds up being about the same with decreased mileage.
Ethanol has much higher octane than gasoline.
The US is using ~15% of its corn crop for fuel, but ~19% more corn is being raised, so....
Here in Florida, all gasoline has ethanol added, with very few places offering "pure" gasoline, and those places charging a hefty premium.

It's a state by state thing. 10% ethanol mandatory on the left coast.

I have a part-time job as a courier and the owners require we buy our fuel at a Murphy station at Super Walmart, the price is about 2-3c cheaper than other gas stations but they have 10% ethanol. I have noticed I have to fill up slightly earlier than I did when using other gas without the ethanol. So I guess you save a few pennies then spend a few more because you fill up more!! I only work there!

Ethanol is only cheaper because the it is subsidized by our tax dollars. Just like most everything else big brother gets involved with it is a bad idea.

Alcohol has half the BTU content of gasoline so it takes more of it to do the same amount of work.
So to travel the same distance using any fuel with alcohol will require more of it than straight gasoline.

Ethanol is required in ks and mo. It doesn't cause a problem in my car, but causes vapor lock in my boat.

All gas in our local area (Portland OR - Vancouver, WA) is required to be 10% ethanol to lower the emissions all year long. Arco used to be the only one that used ethanol (before BP bought them), due to the tax incentives it used to be quite a bit cheaper but not much lower anymore.
