how long would it take to fully charge 2 6 volts (at 1/2 charge) with a honda 1000 watt generator? what amp level should you use on your deep cycle charger? (ie charger plugged into the generator)

About 84 amps is the best you can do with a 1k gen. 1/2 charge is down 110ah, roughly 1.25 hours at full bulk charge. But good charging takes longer if you have a 3 stage charger. Maybe 4-5 hours.

The Honda 1000 cannot provide enough power to get maximum charging efficiency on two Trojan T105s. I know that because I have tried it. The maximum it can support is about 35 amps if other normal loads are on also. When the batteries were down 50% the PD9160 converter would try to pump more amps than the Honda could support, so the Honda would shut down. I solved the problem by upgrading to a Honda 2000. With that I get an initial charge rate of about 50 amps.
You could work around the problem by doing the initial half-hour or so with the charger locked out of bulk mode to limit the current, then switch to bulk mode. Under thoes conditions it would take 3 to 4 hours.

the honda 1000 isn't much glood for anything but I use mind to charge our 4 27 group batteries using the front plug that connect to our truck for brakes and lights. I use a 15 amp manual battery charger with the same style connector as on the truck. this works good enough for the very few times we have needed it. The power protector hard wired on our alpenlite doesn't allow the 1000 or honda 2000 to put power into the fifthwheel. chevman

A 1000 watt generator will only produce at most 3.5 amps 12VDC I would suggest getting a quality battery charger and plug that into the generator and then directly to the batteries. Will get a much higher rate of charge.

The 1000 should power your converter or a charger up to 45 amps. The highest setting that does not overload the generator is fine. It will take 2 to 6 hours to get to 80% depending on how low the battery is and an additional 4 to 6 hours to get to 100% assuming the charger is 40 amps and charges at 14.2+ volts.

Thanks - this is what I was thinking too. When Im hooking up the clamps from the charger to the batteries, do I need to unplug the batts from the trailer, or can I just hook the charger up on top of the other connectors?

A 1000 watt generator will supply a PD9245 (45 AMP charger)without problme (don't try to use AC power for anything else). You're looking at a 3 to 4 hour charge.

I dont see where a 1000 watt generator or a 2000 watt generator or simply plugging into shore power is going to make one bit of difference in the amount of time it takes to charge two 6 volt batteries. The two 6 volts will only accept at most 15 amps and a lot of cheap auto- chargers only charge at a 10 amp rate. I have to disagree a bit with hwybnb since I just got though with about 2500 hours of use on a 1000 Honda charging batteries and now use a 2000 Honda. The charge rate is exactly the same.
Back to how long it will take to charge? Typically it will take about 3-4 hours to bring a batteries up to 85% of capacity from say 50%. I put 85% at 13.6 volts. It can take about 15 hours to bring the batteries up to 13.9-14.3 volts or 100%. That is why so many people use solar because it doesnt make sense to run a generator for long periods. Set your charger at 15 or 20 amps it probably doesnt matter. Then when it reads full put it on trickle. It can take a while to bring a couple of 6-Volts up to full charge.

The clamps can go right on the battery without disconnecting anything.
How about posting what exactly the charger is?
