My shurflow 2088 pump bleeds back into the fresh water tank in about 2 hrs so the pump cycles. I proved this by turning the pump on to build presure, turned pump off and closed the suction line to tank and opened the suction line for winterizing and let it sit, it filled the hose up. My pump cycles on at 20psi and off at 40psi. Over night it doesn't go bellow 15psi. My Jayco is an 04 and it has cycled like this since new. I took the pump apart and it looks clean.
Can I install a check valve in the suction line or will this cause problems when priming up? Also the check would have to be horizontal because of limeted space.
When the pump cycles my 2 year old keeps saying "Whats that", it wakes him up from naps and at night if I forget to turn it off. I am in process of insulating the hoses for noise and might install a 1 gal. surge tank too, if I can fit it.
Thanks

If I remember correctly, Sureflow pumps have a two year warranty. When my pump did this I called Sureflow and had a new pump a few days later. I installed the pump and problem fixed.
The three little rubber diaphragms serve as the pumping mechanism and are supposed to prevent back flow. If yours leaks backwards, you either have worn diaphragms or foreign material between the diaphragm and seat, and that foreign material can be darned small and still cause this problem. IMO, for the cost of a diaphragm kit(Shurflo calls it a "valve assembly") vs the price and installation of a check valve, I would replace the valve assembly.
