We are planning on going to the New England states this July/August. Generally we don't eat out, however we make exceptions for special meals. Like when we were in Philadelphia we found out about this little place where the locals hang and got a Philly cheese stake, excellent inexpensive food and great company!!. So my question is where is the best place to get a lobster dinner in the New England States?? We're staying at the KOA Cape Cod,MA & Moose Hillock CG, NH..Still up in the air about Maine, Might take a day trip and overnight in a hotel up there. Staying 8 nights at the KOA hoping to take day trips. 10 days at the Moose Hillock also hoping to take day trips to Vermont & perhaps Maine....Thanks for the suggestions...

If you go to Maine they have Lobster places that you can go into, pick your lobster and they cook it for you and you take it home. Nothing fancy just a shack a long side of the road.

You'll get the best price if you eat at a "pound" near the coast; some are just shacks as mentioned above. These are usually open air eateries that serve a full lobster dinner with the fixings for a good price, or do whole lobsters to go. Lund's just north of Ellsworth is a long-time favorite. To get an idea of the difference between a restaurant and a lobster pound; last year in Bar Harbor a lobster dinner (and that's a lobster tail not the whole thing) was $28. At Lund's we paid $22 for a two pound whole lobster with fries, corn, slaw, and ice tea. The price of lobster changes almost daily during the season based on weather, supply, and demand. As an aside, be sure to try some of the Maine crab. it's very tasty.

Yes, we were in Bar Harbor in '05, and went out for dinner. There was a lobster pound located behind a fancy hotel / restaurant, same business actually. The pound was a small cabin on the water, with picnic tables where I got the "lobster experience" which consisted of lobster bisque, whole lobster, clams, potatoes, corn on the cob and blueberry pie.......$29, bet the restaurant would have charged double

My wife is a landlubber, she had a burger, which she said was great.

Then last year in Wells Beach, I had lobster at least once / day. Picked out my own, they steamed it, brought it back to the MH. Stopped at a bunch of clam shacks, pounds, and a few restaurants. If you're in that area, (southern ME) don't miss the Maine Diner !

Last year on the cape as it's called

I stopped at a small local place just after crossing into the cape lobster cooked $6 for 1 1/2 pound

I ate in Maine for about same price at a road side shop.

If I were to take them home (1 1/2 pounders) cost $3.

In Booth Bay I drove south out of town and had full dinner for $20 downtown $30.

I Guess you know I now hate you for making me remember how good they were.

Tuesday I had Frogleggs for dinner so I'm really not to mad at you.

ENJOY PETE

In 2006 we drove up to Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Found out nearly every place makes Lobsta Rolls, even roadside stands and each one uses different bread. Never tried one, but the fish sandwiches are great, too. And the Wanna Waff's were addictive and we all gained weight!

From reading the replys, The Cape or coast of Maine is where to get them. So you might want to have one while at the Cape because while you are at Moose Hillock, you will not be having lobster and just in case you do not make it to Maine, you will have had some. Enjoy.

Don't be so sure about Moose Hillock. About 1/2 hour from there, you can travel to Lincoln. On Rt 3, there is a motel called Woodwards. They have a restaurant, and offer a great lobster dinner. We are there for a weekend every summer.

There are other restaurants in the area as well.

The Cape isn't really known for her Lobster.
But what they do serve is indeed fresh, so it'll be quite good.
Prices are WAY up this season.

The "cape cod KOA" isn't on the Cape.
It's not close, but if you want the best lobster in Massachusetts, go up to Gloucester and Rockport on Cape Ann (the OTHER Cape).
Or head over towards Essex and eat at Woodmans. In addition to the good food, it provides a "clam bake" atmosphere.

Tell Moose Hillock I said hello. We had a blast their two years ago.
