Arrrggghhhh!!!

I have changed my oil recently on my "new to me" 2003 Sierra. Now, however, the "change engine oil" display comes up when I start the engine. According to the manual, I can re-set this by using the buttons on my steering wheel. The problem is, I ain't got no buttons on my steering wheel!

I have tried pushing in, holding in, etc., the stalk sticking out of the instrument panel next to the speedometer, but to no avail.

How the heck do I re-set this thing!!?? With my old truck, it involved stepping down on the accelerator several times within five second, or something like that, I don't recall exactly. Is this what I need to do again??? It does not say anything about that in the manual.

From my manual...

To reset the eingine oile life system, do the following...
1. turn the ignition key to run with the eingine off.
2. fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.

if the oil life reset message flashes for 10 seconds, the system is resetting.
3. turn the key to lock.

Check your manual again. I have the steering wheel controls but my manual also gives instructions for trucks like yours. If you can't find the instructions, PM me and I'll check my manual for you.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

That is the maddening part! I have studied the manual several times and it says nothing about re-setting the DIC if you do not have the steering wheel buttons. I can scroll through each of the available sections of the DIC by pushing the stalk, but I can't change anything except the tripmeter.

Its in the manual, but hard to find. Also when you resent, it does not go back to 100% oil. Each time mine goes down a bit. tried the cleaners etc. While it does not reset to 100% it also takes longer to go down. Dealers have not had an explanation, except that the sensor get "dirty"

I think that might be the understatement of the year!

If you know what it says, please let me know.

There isn't an oil life "sensor"...the system monitors things like throttle posistion, engine temp, speed, RPM's, shift points and makes calculations on when oil should be changed...I really hope your GM dealer didn't tell you that the oil life sensor gets "dirty".

Back to the question at hand...you will need to depress the accelarator pedal with the key in the on posistion multiple times to reset the monitor.

Better than my dealer telling me to ignore the monitor and be back in 3000 miles for my next change! Embarrassed faces when I asked if following the monitor will void my warranty! Then I ripped the sticker off the windshield they had put in there with a "3000 miles or 3 months" date on it.
GRRRR!
