What would you guys recommend the cold tire pressure should be at. The tires on the PUP are ST205/75D14. The Max is listed at 50lb. It's currently 45lbs.

50 lbs cold. Don't run them underinflated, you are just asking for a blow-out!

Unlike "P" and "LT" grade tires, "ST" (special trailer) tires are only designed to run at the maximum pressure listed on the tire side wall.

Did you check the tire inflation sticker on the side of the trailer. It usually gives a TP for the tires at maximum trailer load.

No, I took the info right off the tires.

Trailers have the smallest possible tires to carry the rated load.
Unless you have installed larger tires, run the max listed on the sidewall.

With ST tires even if you've replaced the tires with higher rated tires you still use the maximum inflation pressure listed on the tire side wall.
Again ST (special trailer) tires are DESIGNED to ONLY run at the maximum inflation pressure.
Also do not try and out guess the tire manufacturers by thinking that pressures increase when driving so you should run a few pounds less. They have been making tires for over 100 years now and they know about the pressure increase and have designed for it.
AND set your pressures before driving. That's why we recommend buying one of the inexpensive 12 volt compressors. They may take a long time raising the tires to the correct pressure, but that's better than driving to somewhere and then guessing what to put in because they have increased from driving.

Every ST tire builder has those charts, But get one to say run them at the lower pressure for a lower load and you'll be the first.
We went through this several years ago when I made the mistake of if a little bit larger is good, then huge would be great.
I replaced tires with ones apx 70% higher in weight carrying capacity and the tires would come off the ground at every expansion strip. We forget how much of the suspension is actually in the tires; and to make a long story short the 6 tire manufacturers I contacted ALL said to only run them at the maximum pressure as that's what they were designed for. No one could give me an answer as to why they all had the inflation charts showing reduced pressures for reduced loads, other than to say well we have them for our other types of tires.
