I noticed today that 3 of my 4 Goodyear Marathons(made in Canada in 2006) that have maybe 1K mi. on them & are cracking a little where the sidewalls ends & the tread begins. I have read all about the history on these tires. I watch them very carefully. I went to Discount tire to see what they would do & they said they are not bad enough to warranty & they are aware of their speration history. They said that the cracks will get bigger & when they do they might be able to get them warrantied. For those of you who had your Marathons warrantied BEFORE they tore apart, how do I go about doing it? TIA

I didn't bother with the one that went at 1200 miles on my TT. Just bit the bullet, junked it and bought five Maxxis and sold the remaining four Marathons. Would have been too much of a hassle where I live and lifes too shoprt. Peace of mind PRICELESS!!

I helped a guy today who had OE Michelins on his 2006 DRW Itasca Navion B+. They had the beginnings of cracking near the beads on the tires, but they were fine. If the cracks are enough that there is a chance that the underlying belts can get air to them then you have a claim and a real reason to remove them. Otherwise you have the thick protective surface layer doing it's job and keeping the environment out of your tires structure. I hope hearing this helps.
OTOH if Goodyear steps up, take the offer and get the tires you don't trust out of your life. And worst case replace them yourself if you are positive they are trouble. That's a lot better than having a failure.

Good luck!

I went to NTB today & Goodyear said they would give me 100% credit on my tires BUT only if I got more Goodyears. No refunds. No exchange for different brand tire. My tread depth is at their 'FULL' or 'new' rating. What should I do? I don't want more of these junk tires. Has anyone gotten a refund on theirs & not just an exchange? TIA

I'd take the new Goodyears and if they crack again, I'd take another set. I don't know whats happened, but I never had a problem with Marathons when I had them on my boat trailer and TT. Good luck.

Some small cracks, I'm told,, Are normal.. How to "Draw the line" I don't know

However I do not think you need my best advice (Keep a close eye on it) as I suspect you already are doing just that.

I would take the new tires under warranty without doubt first off, then if I wanted something different I would pick which brand I wanted and purchase those. If you were to get lucky and buy the other brand from the same dealer get him not mount the new Goodyears and just throw them in the motorhome. You may even get lucky and the dealer will buy the goodyears from you or run them on craigslist as brand new never mounted for about 75-80% of the best price they can be bought for.

They should sell fairly quickly at that pricing and you are only out of the price of one tire for your peace of mind!
