I had a very old bottle of Lestiol that I had found works wonders for black streaks and I had used for about the past 7 or 8 years. I couldn't find any lestoil in the stores until last night. I stopped at Ace Hardware and there it was. I bought a bottle and again it is priceless in the job that it does on blackstreaks, bugs and tar. I use it full strength on a rag and the wash it off with car wash soap and water... It's great!

Can that product be used on any surface. Like the awning or fiberglass front cap?

Hi,

Lestoil is a very good cleaner. I will sometimes use it diluted to wash my car before I wax it. However, be very careful with it's use. It will remove the black streaks, bugs, etc. and probably whatever wax or protection you have on the surface as well. I also use it to clean up with after a dirty session of playing home mechanic. It works really well, although wifey can't stand the smell.

Also be aware that Lestoil contains 20-30% "stoddard solvent" (according to the MSDS sheet), this is also known as mineral spirits. This is a petroleum distillate, and as such, means that Lestoil should NOT be used on anything that states "Do not use petroleum distillates." I believe that includes vinyl, many plastics and many paints and other surfaces. It's great...but use it carefully. I don't know if I'd put it "full strength" on anything I value that has a nice finished surface.

You can find the MSDS sheet here.
Scroll down to Lestoil.

Just a heads up - I've traveled quite extensively for my job, and I've discovered that Lestoil isn't widely available outside the northeast. I got so that I took a bottle with me when I traveled.
(I work with large motor-generators. They can be very dirty (carbon dust mixed with oiy/grease) and we have found the best way to clean ourselves is to use Lestoil, straight out of the bottle, work it in, then wash off. Unfortunately, we can't use it on the generators, themselves, because it leaves a residue.)
Just thought I'd add my $.02 !

Good to know. We used Lestoil for years for our fishing boats. It worked great on everything from dried on bait to blood and everything in between.

If it has the petro distillates you better not let touch your roof!! I prefer a polymere coating on the surface like Rejex provides than black streaks wipe off with a wash brush!!

I have used it on my awning with no side effects and I use it full strength. It removes the mold, black streaks, bird dung, tree sap and when I get done the awning looks new. If your concerned about it test a small area first. I probably should wax again after using but really never have.

jchonroad; Is right - I had a hard time finding it here in Indiana. I was about ready to buy it online from Amazon.com but then it was twice the price to ship it. I noticed it was being shipped from Aceonline.com so I checked my local Ace store and they had it. I had not seen it there before.
