I have a 2004 National Tropi Cal which has a RCA flat screen tv in the front and a 19 RCA non flat screen in the bedroom. Both of these TV's were probably made in 2003. Without removing the TV's to get the model numbers how can I tell if they are digital or if I will need a converter box? The manuals seem to be of no help at all.

We moved!! No more nasty neighbors, no more rotten parking. I am saving this picture just to remind myself how bad it was.
Both have analog tuners only most likely. In the menu system where you select to scan and program channels there would be an additional choice for digital. If you Cable and Air only then you need the box....
If the owner's manual doesn't tell you how to tune in digital channels, chances are your TV has no digital tuner. You can look on the specifications page of the manual (usually located in the back of the manual) to see what type of tuner the TV has. If you have only an NTSC tuner, you can't tune in digital channels without an external digital (ATSC) tuner plugged into one of the input jacks. If you have an NTSC (analog) and ATSC (digital) tuner, you can tune in both. You might read your manual and find out how to make your TV do a channel search. If it has a digital tuner, it should find digital channels and add them into the programming memory so that you can tune to them with the up/down channel button on the remote or on the tv. Our Toshiba Regza LCD HD TV we bought for our RV found and programmed both all the analog and all the digital channels available in our area the first time I commanded it to do a channel search. There is a menu we can use to command the TV to skip either analog or digital channels, depending on our preference, but for the present time, I haven't tried to use it. I simply let the TV load all available channels for now.
